No ape in my collection yet, but probably the first one that I will get will be the CollectA orangutan you mention, as it was present in my favourite toy shop last time I was able to visit this place. I wonder if after the Covid they will reopen and if they will have still these figures.

If they reopen, they will still have the figures you want as noone was able to buy them for 2 months !

V Mammals

K) Primates

2) Monkeys and apes

b) Apes

2. Gorillas

Species : Western lowland gorilla
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Figures on this picture (from left to right) :
- Schleich 14771 Gorilla Female (2017-still in production)
- Schleich 14661 Gorilla Male (2012-2017)
- Schleich 14770 Gorilla Male (2017-still in production)
- Schleich 14662 Gorilla Female with Baby (2012-2017)
- Schleich 14198 Gorilla Baby (2002-2008)
- Schleich 14197 Gorilla Female (2002-2004)
- Schleich 14663 Baby Gorilla (2012-2015)

Fun facts :
- In my opinion, gorillas are also one of Schleich's strenght, especially their 2017 male I consider as one of their recent masterpieces.
- The female from 2002 is one of the rarest figures I ever found in a shop : it was only available for two years, was retired in 2004 but I managed to find it 15 years later in a small independant shop lost in deep Brittany.
- In my group, the 2012 male is my silverback and the 2017 model is a blackback starting to get his silverback and challenge the old chief.
- My female with a baby on her back is more brownish than the other members of the group. I think it gives her some personality.
- Of course, I am waiting for the new CollectA mountain gorilla. I may get it at the same time than the orangutan. I look forward to know which brand will win the gorilla contest. The Schleich male from 2017 is currently the best but the CollectA model is probably going to be a very serious challenger.
- The most recent pair were presents from my mother. She bought them with me in my favourite Schleich shop. I found the two other females during my figure hunts. Since I often try to match the social behaviour of the species, I was only able to add a new male to my group once I had three females (I did not want to have more or as many males as females). For that reason, I did not buy the 14196 male from 2002 when I saw it within the collection of another collector from my region. I have the old baby from my childhood (it went with the 14030 model from 1990 I still have in my vintage collection) and found the other one while I was on holidays with my parents.
- I have seen western lowland gorillas in zoos.

There is agreement here. You don't need to collect gorillas from other brands to be decently served. Though, there are also very good gorillas outside of the Schleich planet.
I use to say that I have all Schleich retired I want but it is not true because I still miss the Schleich 2002 female and I love it.
I will also try to remember to get the 2017 male before it is discontinued. The only problem is that I don't need more gorillas, I have both Papo and I am really excited about new CollectA.
I have a few ohter gorillas, like Britains, Lineol, Sol90 , etc.

The most recent Schleich female in my collection as a mountain gorilla with the two Papo models. They are soon to be joined by the CollectA model whom will complete this family.

I did originally have her with my Schleich family from 2012 but she stuck out like a sore thumb so I made her a mountain gorilla due to her more shaggy coat.

I am just thinking I have 5 Western lowland gorillas and 3 mountain, interesting study

3. Chimpanzees

Species : Chimpanzee
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Figures on this picture (from left to right) :
- Schleich 14189 Chimpanzee Male (2002-2013)
- Schleich 14817 Chimpanzee Male (2018-still in production)
- Schleich 14191 Chimpanzee Female (2002-2013)
- Schleich 14192 Chimpanzee Baby (2002-2013)
- Schleich 14680 Young Chimpanzee (2013-2017)
- Schleich 14679 Chimpanzee Female with Baby (2013-2017)
- Schleich 14678 Chimpanzee Male (2013-2016)
- Papo 50194 Chimpanzee with Baby (2016-still in production)

Fun facts :
- The chimpanzee is probably the species I like collecting the most : I have never enough chimps ! I find this species very interesting because of its closeness to mankind, but it is not especially my favourite one. No, what I like the most about collecting chimps is the diversity of poses and designs they show cheers
- In my opinion, chimps are also one of Schleich's strenght. None of their chimps is bad, not even the old model from 1994 I still have in my vintage collection. My favourite male may be the 2002 version, even though it is less accurately proportionate (bigger head) than the newer males, I like his face. My favourite female is definitely the one carrying her baby in her hands (this figure is such a moving piece of art in my opinion) I love you
- Unfortunately I missed the Papo male which was retired in 2017. I don't know much about Safari's chimps. I would love to have the Mojo female with her baby on her back but I read here that it was as large as a CollectA antelope... The CollectA female looks a bit outdated but I may still purchase it one day, when I'll have nothing else to order.
- I got the female from 2002 in quite a stressful way. I went to a small town in northern Brittany to buy a Schleich retired moose cow. Unfortunately, there were two shops from the same chain in that town and I went to the wrong one. So I had to cross the whole town and walk for a long time in the countryside to reach the other store located in a shopping area outside of the town. I had planned to visit another shop in this town, a small independant one which could maybe have a few retired figures. But because of my previous misfortune, I had almost no time left. So, I just ran to the shop, looked quickly at the Schleich display stand, picked up the only retired figure I missed (that chimp), paid and ran to the railway station in order to take my train before it leaves. I sweat like a pig that day !
- My grandfather loves monkeys and apes so I gave him a 14817 male chimp as a gift. Well, I have to admit I kind of gave it to him in order to get rid of it. Indeed, I found a better painted sample a few days after buying the first one. So I kept the new figure and gave the previous one to my grandpa.
- A bonobo is seriously missing within western brands' range.
- I have the chimpanzee baby from my childhood (it went with the old model from 1994). When I started collecting again, I first bought the 2018 male and the female carrying her baby in her hands in  local shops. They were my first couple. Then, I found the 2002 female and the 2013 male during my figure hunts. I bought the 2002 male to another collector from my region. I got the teenager chimp in the Schleich watering hole set. Finally, I bought the Papo female in that shop close to my job, after seeing Caracal's comparison pics.
- I have seen chimpanzees in zoos and bonobos too.

I have all the chimps you have and I certainly agree that bonobos should be made. Maybe CollectA will release a bonobo family instead of an updated chimp family. My chimp family is 14 strong and in my personal opinion the most recent Papo is the perfect chimp. If only its unbelievably creepy baby didn't come with it. The chimp also has the perfect rear end as nearly all chimp figures have none existent bottoms.

My chimp at this size is the male 2013 from Schleich. I don't like the clownish style of most of them, as it happens with the old Schleich, absolutely unrealistic but funny. OK, I know, sometimes they looks like clowns as it happens with wombats, kuokkas but I jut do not enjoy it too much.
Probably the nicest chimp I can remember is the newer Mojö female but I don't have it so I can't be sure and it seems it is really huge. Again, I'm just waiting for CollectA's new generation.
We all use the Nayab/Del Prado figure as a bonobo, an excellent chimp figure but I think I gave mine. monkey

This one [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ?

I don't really see how they are unrealistic... Chimps have a huge variety of facial expressions and some actually make them look like clowns. The young "teenage" chimp is a bit cartoonish but the other ones are fine. Some of them may have heads a bit too big but that's all. Even the old male from 2002 with his lips open is not more "clown-looking" than a real chimp as you can see from this picture of mine :
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I feel like this is unjustified this time. But we rarely agree when Schleich is concerned bounce

Yes, I was referring to that Nayab chimp. About the fact that I do not appreciate clown like chimps you clearly misunderstood me. I know how expressive real chimps are and they really look funny, it is the reason why some humans explored these creatures in official activities or just in street performances. I was just telling that I do not enjoy seeing this feature being explored in a toy figure and it is not just a Schleich thing, but the majority of the figures in your collection are Schleich and it is natural that I tend to comment about them, being it positive or negative. Haven't I told my chimp choice is a Schleich? scratch

The chimp you have is the most fierce-looking that's right, but except the youngster, I don't think the other ones look so much like clowns. They look friendly that's right but the Papo female does too and you don't think she's clownish, do you ? (however, as Adam mentioned, her baby looks like... a creepy aye-aye affraid )

I understand you do not like the clownish feature in animal figures but I don't even think it is so much pronounced with Schleich's chimps.

- Schleich 13441 Gamekeeper (2007-2012)

Fun facts :
- I got the gamekeeper for free, as part of a sales offer, and did not really care about him at first. Now however, I have to say I am quite attached to him : he is the keeper of my African nature reserve and I do display him around the Schleich waterhole.
- The white guy is part of the Indian rhino baby set.
- I have seen humans in the "wild" Laughing

Oh, I love hoy you put humans as just one more animal as it should be. Nowadays there is a tendence of general society about "desnaturalizing" humans, but I, like you, presented our species as just one more in, for example, my species factsheets :)

I think the Papo chimp you're showing is a lovely figure as it is the 2013 Schleich chimp with baby. They only reflect the differences in concept from Schleich to Papo.
While the Schleich is a canonical figureworthy to stand on an altar of a chimps church, the Papo represents a less conventional and rebellious mode often seen on the French brand.
Schleich 2013 male chimp doesn't look fierce to me but that is up to each one. I really think the 1994 Schleich figure does. Laughing affraid
I also don't think the old Schleich are the most clownish of ever, old Safari or CollectA's are too. However, it doesn't mean I'd refuse any of them in my collection. monkey
Have you never seen humans in Zoos? They are far more than lemurs. Wink

Well, my laptop seems to work this morning. I don't understand how it's possible but it does work now.

However, I am afraid it is in very very bad condition. So, I will try to connect only once a day, in the morning, in order to post my pics and answer the comments. I won't be connected 7 hours per day anymore. Hopefully, it will not crash that way.
