| V MammalsL) Odd-toed ungulates1) RhinocerosesSpecies : Indian rhinoceros, white rhinoceros, black rhinoceros [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Figures on this picture (from left to right) : - Schleich 14816 Indian Rhinoceros (2018-still in production) - Schleich 42428 Indian Rhinoceros baby (2018-2019) - CollectA 88852 White Rhinoceros (2019-still in production) - Schleich 14743 Rhinoceros (2015-2018) - Schleich 14193 African Black Rhinoceros Dark Version (2009-2015) - Schleich 14395 African Black Rhino Calf (2009-2013) Fun facts : - I love my Schleich Indian and black rhinos, I think they are great figures (especially the Indian one) but they are no match for the wonderful, the amazing, the incredible CollectA white rhino. Despite its excessively long horn, it is one of the very few figures in my collection that really look real and alive. CollectA's antelopes are magnificent but I think this rhino is even more representative of CollectA's skill and talent because it is even more difficult to represent iconic and very popular species in a really satisfying way, expectations being much higher. The white rhino makes me look forward to see what CollectA is capable of with the African elephant for example. Indeed, that white rhino, along with the last hippo and this year's gorilla are the vanguard of a new wave dedicated to the replacement of CollectA's "mainstream" species' outdated models. And it's very promising so far ! - I think that CollectA's white rhino and Schleich's black rhino are very useful educational tools to teach children (and grown-ups too !) how to tell the two species apart. The lips difference is particularly well represented on these models and proportions are repected. - I have the light version of the female black rhino too. I have it from my childhood and it is now in my vintage collection. I replaced it by the darker, more recent version because it fitted much better with my male (and obviously the calf I did not have yet at that time). - I never understood why the black rhino is so much more represented than his white cousin within the animal toy industry while the great white is the biggest, the most spectacular, the most common in zoos and the most iconic. Perhaps that's because the black one is rarer and more threatened ? - The black rhino calf is one of the few retired Schleich figures I never found in shops during my figure hunts and had to order online. - I bought the Indian rhino and the two black ones in my favourite Schleich shop. I found the Indian calf during my figure hunts and ordered the black calf from Gaschers.de. - I have seen Indian, black and white rhinos in zoos. Update : Were added to the collection - Safari 270229b White Rhino (2011-still in production) - Safari 100103 Sumatran Rhino (2018-still in production) For further information, please check the addition topics. | For my posting I use 2 laptops, 1 which is with my collection at my home, and the other one which I'm using when I leave my collection and go on my travels. The first laptop is really slow and takes forever to charge. The one I am using takes 1/2 hour to charge and has 9 hours of battery _________________ [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ADAM [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] "Our planet is in crisis. No, I would not dare to try that, I am going to visit my computer specialist on Monday and see what he'll do. I think the problem may come from the fan as my laptop is much noisier than it used to be. | In my collection I have 4 rhino species, all the same as yours including a Sumatran. Half of my rhino species have 4 individuals and I have the Safari Indian rhino on my wish list to complete its family. Before recognising rhino species in toy form I had two Schleich, two Papo, one Nayab and one CollectA. After discovering the TAI I reclassified nearly all my animals, and then buying two white rhinos _________________ [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ADAM [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] "Our planet is in crisis. | Oh, so you was able to continue enriching this thread with your wonderful collection despite all the informatic problem! That's magnific and we're grateful to you :) I wish the best for you tomorrow when you visit the informatic expert! Rhinos are very special, one of the most popular figures in every brand but still interesting to collect the different species, most of them being in the verge of extinction sadly I wondered if acquire or not the Schleich Indian rhino, it's a wonderful model but I think that Safari is even better and this is what is in my wishlist. For the black rhino I've chosen Papo instead, and no white rhino was enough charming to me until the announcement of the 2019 CollectA white rhino that I've found casually in a stationery and of course bought inmediately as it was one of those figures put into my wishlist since the same moment of announcement. So as a result we only share 1 model of rhino in our collections and it's the unbeatable CollectA's white. I think horn lenght is OK, more is the horn thickness what's is too exaggerated as whinos with very long horns also have very thin frontal horn except in the base. But the horn is no matter when all the other features are so incredibly and magnific done with every possible detail well sciulpted, the ears, eyes, nostrils with bright varnish for make the effect of humidity, the wrinkles, the curled tail, the shoulder hump, the genitals, the hooves, the ribs, all in this rhino is almost like a real white rhino in miniature and this realism is what I search in the models of my collection. Of course I obtained first the Sumatran rhino of Safari, that is the most exciting species for me before the white and black rhinos. Needless to say I never saw Sumatran rhinos in zoos, since I was not able to travel to USA before Harapan in Cincinnati Zooo was transferred to Sumatra to strenght the wild population. He was the last of the Sumatran rhinos outside native range and it's a shame that the level is too critic now for a rescue plan by captive breeding in zoos. _________________ My collection:- (Details):

| It's interesting that CollectA made their newest white rhino with a huge horn. There are probably no rhinos alive today with such an impressive horn due to poaching. I'm sure many years ago long horned rhinos were the normal thing to see but now it seems just like a legend. It is also like Schleich when they released a very long tusked individual in 2012.

| Let me start telling you that white rhinos are more common in toy shape than black rhinos. It is not true in Schleich world once the company never made white rhinos and even re-eeleased an entire family of black rhinos. The only Schleich rhino I really like is the 2018 Indian rhinoceros. It is an incredible figure with a great pose and amazing level of detail, good proportions too. I love rhinos, they're spectacular but as they are big figures I can't have many of them and that's the reason why I never acquired the Schleich once the Safari masterpiece was already in my collection and that's enough for now. Schleich black rhino is very detailed and very popular among collectors but it has an important mistake that makes it not a good educational toy as you mentioned. Black rhinos, despite having less massive bodies, their heads are proportionally smaller than those of white rhinos. It is sometimes easier to spot than their different lips. Schleich figure has a huge head even for a rhino. I use the Papo version, not perfect but besides having better proportions, it shows the traditional nervous temperament of these creatures. I also agree the CollectA white rhino is a masterpiece, I only avoided it in my next batch of additions because the very long horn is disturbing for my taste, I am not defintely a pop culture guy, but I will get it soon or later. I have Mojö's, also a very detailed one but with a boring pose. For a calf there isn't anything as masterful as Mojö's calf that you can see in this [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]I still think Safari white rhino is excellent and their Sumatran rhino is a prioritairy model in any wildlife collection. |

| Yes of course, the Sumatran rhino is a must-have, I forgot to mention it in my post.
Interesting info about them Pardo, they are a very unique species, almost a wooly rhino, it would be a disaster if they disappeared...
Adam, which Schleich rhino from 2012 are you talking about ?
Roger, is Mojo's white rhino a male or a female ? I may be interested in it if it's a female (or genderless I can use as a female) since you know I really like to have individuals of both sexes. I could also get Ana's calf to complete the family.
If it's not "on holidays" I would really like to see a picture of yours.
And now, I am going to switch off my laptop as I don't want to exhaust it... _________________ Schleich 370 CollectA 76 Papo 61 Safari 24 Yujin 15 Southlands 12 Mojo 14 Maia&Borges 5 Bullyland 1 Recur 1 Homemade 3 Bootleg 1 Total 582

| Good that you can continue as this thread has become a daily routine for me Rhinos are for sure a species that I will one day give an update. So, I´m always looking which choices other collectors did. No wonder, that I learned about the love of the CollectA White Rhinoceros, but even that it´s a good figurine, I don´t think that it works for me. There is something, that really distracts me, that disturbs me. In fact, I don´t like the horn and I think this is one of the most important features for a rhinoceros figurine... |

He bit me the crotch very hard in order to steal the popcorn bag I had between the legs. - The most recent female is the only Schleich figure I ever bought in a supermarket. I bought the previous female and both foals in my favourite Schleich shop. I found the male in a garden centre during one of my figure hunts and got the grazing/drinking female in the Schleich waterhole set. - I have seen the three zebra species in zoos. _________________ Schleich 370 CollectA 76 Papo 61 Safari 24 Yujin 15 Southlands 12 Mojo 14 Maia&Borges 5 Bullyland 1 Recur 1 Homemade 3 Bootleg 1 Total 582

| My plains zebra herd is five strong and has all the same zebras as yours except for the most recent foal. After the world returns to normal I'll be adding the two 1999 figures to my collection and that might be the last plains zebras I get. I do have a Grevy's zebra which I got on my birthday 2017 as CollectA released some masterpieces that year, and one I believe was my suggestion to the brand that I wrote to them in 2015 _________________ [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ADAM [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] "Our planet is in crisis. | These Schleich zebras were a landmark of the company and they had no competitors for a long time. Not even the newer versions of the brand are as nice. Ironically, through trades and gifts I ended without any of them because I always thought they were easy to find again but I neglected it a little. The same way I make some jokes about some Schleich figures, poor Papo zebras were also target of my jokes, there isn't a brand stamped on my forehead. You have a wonderful groupf of them, I'd say my plains zebra at this scale is the Lineol IV generation I have obviously the CollectA plain's zebra, one of the most wished species of ever. There's also a Mojö quagga and a CollectA African wild ass in my collection. I was excited with the newer CollectA plains zebra but not sure now, let's see if the Mojö Fun announced for 2020 is as great as it looks. I don't have Mojö rhinos with me and I think the adult is genderless, maybe other member can confirm it. I thought about making a walk around of the Papo black rhino but mine is so poorly painted that I gave up and despite being quite tolerant, I'm now thinking in getting another black rhino but not another Papo, of course. Safari's? |

Yes, if you want a good group of rhino figures, Safari is more than enough, black, white, Indian and Sumatran are all available and they're all great! I'd say I give 4 stars to the African models and 5 to the Asian. Which Bully model you mean, the current version? I have the previous. :) |

I told him I didn't collect horses but quickly changed my mind when I remembered the Przewalski's horse I was ardently looking for since it's a wild species. Luckily, he had it, and this cute little mare became the most interesting figure I got that day ! - I don't know if I will ever get CollectA's stallion. Indeed, it is much larger than my Schleich mare but I can still pretend she is a young filly while CollectA's model is a fully grown horse... - I found the Przewalski's horse during my figure hunts and ordered the African wild ass from my favourite Ebay seller. - I have seen Przewalski's horses and African wild asses in zoos. |
