| It was great to know the official names of them on catalogues. Apparently, Starlux collectors are using the lady with the Muskovy duck as a Farmer with goose. I don't see any goose in this basket but... |

| Oh I missed a discussion on Muscovy ducks. I owned Muscovy ducks from 2009 till 2011, we kept them in a large enclosure with many other duck breeds such as Kayugas, Crested, Saxony and Blue Swedish. We bred from them and we sometimes got confused when our Appleyards would join the flock because Muscovy and Appleyards have similar ducklings. My Auntie had a large scale chicken and duck farm back in the 90s and she kept Muscovies to cross with the pekins to make very good table birds _________________ [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ADAM [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] "Our planet is in crisis. | Yes, very small and I am not sure a goose accepts to be transported like that. Adam, your experience with the farm world is honestly very interesting to me, not so usual in your age and I also missed it during my youth. I find these ladies and human figures, a kind of ethnologic pieces. So, every detail is interesting, even the way they are dressed. These pieces are the foie gras of this hobby. So, Adam, if you read it, please allow me a little quiz. In your opinion, what is the France flag dressed lady carrying in her basket: 1. Mullard 2. Muscovy duck 3. Peking duck 4. Goose 5. Australian ostrich |

| Now I believe it's a muscovy due to the prominent red colouration on its face. I don't think it would be a Mulard. Peking ducks are nearly always white and have no red on them, a goose is too big to fit in such a small basket. And the Aussie Ostrich, ooh could it be? _________________ [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ADAM [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] "Our planet is in crisis. | Surely your favourite food would be something chocolike. Well, I am not a foie gras person too, I don't even like the way it is produced. It was just an analogy with bad taste once I believe the Starlux farm series has a little influence of the foie gras production on it. Geese and ducks are very common in French vintage farm series. I'm glad Adam also agrees that there is no ostrich inside of this basket even if a ostrich chick is as large as an chicken. I think your bull is a Saler's. Not the most similar pic, it is a young cow. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Here I am again! I thought the big-headed donkey could be a first generation but I think it is not a Starlux. The commonest donkey we could expect in France is the Provence donkey and the figure fits it perfectly, it only misses the back and shoulder strips. The long-legged donkey looks a lot like an Andalusian donkey but I have no idea of its use in French farms. The draft horses only can be Percherons, I can't think in another french draught breed with featherless legs. Boulonnais? No, I think they're Percherons. Grey ones seem to be first generation while the bay? models are more recent. Percherons are not bay but normally horse models are sold in several colors. The pony is a pony as you said and I think it looks good for a French saddle, though, what does a French saddle pony in a farm? He doesn't look busy at all. I know Starlux also have Camargues, Arabians but defintely not these. I am not farm educated not even a collector of farm figures, so it is the best I can do. Thanks for your wonderful pictures, most I checked online are not minimally comparable. |

| Thankyou, dear Roger, - again of great help ! Now the question is what breed the bay heavies are, but unless it says in some ctalogue, whe may never know. Yes, I understand that you but a questionmark at "bay", but as none of those heavy breeds could be buckskin, we must assume the golden horses with black mane/tail are supposed to be bay |

Yes, I also think it is a more French breed I took a look at Papo's horse breeds, and think perhpas it is a Breton ? This ancient breed is an extremely stocky horse...and is actually thought to be related to the Suffolk Punch |

| Seeing how they are grouped on catalogue. These draft horses, likely known among collectors as "cheval de trait", may represent two distinct breeds. I'd keep Percheron to the featherless ones and Breton, as you suggested and logical, to the feathered ones, at least your tail up draft seems to show some feathering. However, even we can't always trust in sellers, here is a figure sold as "white" Percheron. - it is the tail up in white... They're bay, of course, lazy bay as usual. Among collectors these horses are just brown, white, etc. I am posting here the catalogue pictures you and Alain shared on forum. We can find several of these figures there. At least, it will help to sort things better. The grazing draft horses seem to be in this leaflet what ruins my theory that they are 1st generation. - Caracal wrote:

I think some horse and cattle models are really identified among collectors according with their breeds. Though, for instance, donkeys are surely not. |

| Susanne - I think the second of your three ladies is a smaller maker; Acedo maybe, or someone like that, which may help with the odd donkey?

H You may well be right ! The lady feeding chickens has another "expression" and is more sturdy Her dress seems more old fashioned also That is the joy of buying on Ebay, - the sellers do not know what they are selling, and I don't know what I am buing, so sometimes I get some unusuual models She could fit to the donkey , but the material does not have the same feel But I am very happy you are also looking into this, - the more the better is the chance to find the solution |
