I think the Papo is the right size for a Southern elephant seal in 1/32 scale, but very large for a Northern. Do you think the Lineol/Marolin is a Northern?
... where the brown one has LINEOL GERMANY, the grey one has a blank square. We assume the grey one is 1950s Duralin, because Duralin produced some very good models from the Lineol moulds at that time, with the Lineol markings either obliterated or moulded over.

Wonderful Ohh, yes, The Bullyland model is so great also , and he also has a pup
Duralin, - I do not even know that brand For a split second I hoped it was a NeoForm copy, but first neither material nor bottom look like that, and second...they did not make an elephant seal

Sorry, Susanne, we misspelled it - it should be ''Durolin'' (that's DurOlin, not Duralin).
As we understand it, Pfeiffer licenced a sister-company, Durolin, to produce its Tipple Topple figures in what was then Czechoslovakia. This gave Durolin a set of Tipple Topple animal moulds.
In 1925, Hausser took over Pfeiffer and in 1935/6, with its business booming, moved its factory to Neustadt bei Coburg. It also took over Durolin, which then received a set of Elastolin animal moulds.
We were told on good authority that Lineol tried to move its moulds to a safer place (some time in the early 1940s?). These moulds were stranded outside Germany and ended up in the possession of Durolin.
Certainly, in the early 1950s, Durolin was producing composition animals from Tipple Topple, Elastolin, and Lineol moulds, some of them to a standard good enugh to be confused with the original makers. Tipple Topple and Elastolin animals carried no makers' marks, but Lineol usually did, and, as we said above, Durolin carefully blotted out or moulded over them.

Wonderful Sue and Lesley! Some more wonderful models to illustrate this topic and a little piece of history too.

I thouhgt the Papo was unpleasantly large sized for you although I agree it is a good size. I think that you watch the video below you will get surprised with how large are these seals. The video also shows Roland, the Southern sea elephant from Berlin Zoo. I don't have the book about Lineol to check if the figure was made over it but as I mentioned, I think the Lineol is a Southern. Thus, Web Plaho/Marolin is also. Roland is from Patagonia!

Maybe it is Durolin instead but, coming from Sue and Lesley, I am not surprised a brand called Duralin existed, I wish so.

SO great to read ! !!!! I will print this out, so I can find it again. If it is ok for you
Some things begin to fall into place for me now : Durolin made som really strange models with very pointed noses, but also some really nice ones. And I have a couple of TT models, which are not exactly right. Perhaps they were made by Durolin then
Roger, what an amazing, wonderful great, lovely old video I just can't stop smiling The poor sea Elephant has no idea how silly the man looks, he is just the animal with the fish

I find it really hard to identify the figurines just by looking their nose But what are I saying. I never knew that there are 2 species of sea elephants.
I have one from New Ray and one from Safari (Authentic serie). Maybe they present the northern one? Then, I should buy the Papo. Hmm, but as I said, difficult to judge.
But many thanks everybody from this thread I´ve learned something new! Really interesting!
