Clairet boxes Empty
PostSubject: Clairet boxes   Clairet boxes EmptyThu Sep 09, 2021 12:19 pm

A while ago, I found these Clairet boxes:

The boxes look like 1960s design to me, but they aren’t quite so old. If I understand my Clairet book correctly, they were sold in the 1970s and/or 1980s.

Surprisingly (and fortunately), they didn’t go for much money on Ebay.

The animals are glued to the diorama in the box.

You can see that the polar bear's feet have yellowed due to the glue. However, it looks like some animals were glued back on by a previous owner, so the discolouration may be not be the result of the original Clairet glue.

Big congratulation Roger cheers Wonderful catch. Applause

Those boxes are probably from the 60's or 70's. The last "new models " were made in 1963. In teh Clairet book they ard talknig about a catalogue from the late seventies but there is no link with the boxes.

❤Wonderful catch Roger! I understand now why some of clairet polar bears show yellow shades at the top of their legs, I believed it was to be more realistic!  cheers cheers Applause

Thanks, Christophe. I misunderstood the book, as my French isn't very good. Good to know that they are older than I thought.

Thank you all for your comments!

Someone took a time machine and visited a toy shop more than 50 years ago!!! Shocked I even didn't know these sets existed, they look magical to me.
Also, how important it is that our friend christophe is back on forum, we are much richer again. monkey cheers

Thank you, both. I regret that I didn't buy a third box that was for sale at the same time. But I thought two was enough and someone had already placed a bid on the other box. But later, a box that looked very similar to this third box was put up for sale on Ebay for a much higher price. I think the buyer had just bought it to sell it for a higher price.
