| I was so glad to snag these, and a duplicate pair for you! Glad they arrived safe, one of the other extras had a horn break off in shipping to me. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Very interesting cattle! They look quite different from the 1/32 scale series we discussed before. Are they a different size? |

| They are from the same series as the other ERTL cattle but I will get a comparison with the other models. |

| Here is the Texas Longhorn with the ERTL Chianina bull and it does seem to be a larger model even though they are in the same series, considering the Chianina is the tallest breed of cattle! Here is the Texas Longhorn with the Breyer and the New Ray version. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Thank you, very interesting comparison. I think Ertl probably didn't really make their bulls to exact scale. The horses I have aren't either, but they are roughly within the 1:32 range. The Breyer longhorn is also quite large, useful to know. |

| Looks great! Indeed, they look quite different on the packaging. I bought a few Ertls from the same seller and probably bid against you . I am sorry you didn't get the Hereford bull. |

| Congratulations! I am so happy you won! I recently found this hereford also and my paintwork matches yours... too blended to resemble the breed. But nice sculpts nonetheless.
I would love to see your ertl collection someday. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Here are the Ertl cattle I bought from the same seller. An impressive Hereford bull with calf: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Same sculpt as Taylor's Simmental bull, but the colour is slightly darker. It's enormous compared to my Britains Hereford bull. Clearly not 1:32 scale but I knew that when I bought it. The calf is useable for 1:32 scale even though it looks like a different breed than my Britains Herefords. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Angus bull with calf: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The very first Angus bull was bred in the village where I live and the breeder lies buried in the church graveyard, so I was keen to get these. They are single-colour matt black, not even the eyes are painted. And my favourites, the Brahman bull with calf: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Interesting that they sold bull and calf sets, rather than the usual mother-and-baby pairings we see in farm animals.
My favourite is the Angus bull (and how good to have the breed which is SO local to you!), but they're all nice. They've done such a good job making the sculpts resemble the breeds and vary the poses, within the same smooth and simplified style, so they're different enough without being too different from one another, if that makes sense? You know how sometimes there's too much art style variation from sculpt to sculpt, or in the rendering of different hair types, and it makes a set not look coherant as a whole. These really look like they belong together. |

| No problem you winning the models,Roger! I had the Angus already but will be looking out for the Hereford.I do like an Angus and its great to hear the the maker of the breed is near you! Your Brahman is a Nellore and there is a white version called a Gir.They are Indian Zebu breeds that went to make up the American Brahman breed. It was unusual to have these breeds as no one was making them at the time and Breyer was the only one and they just made the Brahman breed.I think a few older companies just made a generic Zebu. |

| I'll keep an eye out for the Herefords (but won't buy them next time ), I was a bit confused about the Brahman, because they are usually white, but apparently there are red Brahmans too. Can Nelores be red too? - thebritfarmer wrote:

I don't think they are advertised at a particular scale. There are horse and dog breeds in the same series; the horses are generally in a smaller scale than the cattle and the dogs are in a much larger scale. - George wrote:

Yes, that's right, although some breeds like the Guernsey and Jersey cattle were sold as a cow and calf. Apparently, they also made an Angus cow and calf, but I've never seen them, they may be rare. |
