| I can't wait to see your presentation! _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Within the genus Hippopotamus only one recent species exists. Only one other genus with also one species ( Choeropsis liberiensis pygmy hippopotamus/Zwergflusspferd) belongs to the family. General remarks: 1. the short limbs each ending in four forward projecting toes, equipped with broad hooves and connected with partially developed webbed feet. Figures have 3-5 toes 2. the inner pair of incisors is larger than the outer. 3. difference H. amphibius and C. liberiensis: the former has 4 incisors each in the upper and lower dentition, the latter 6. Figures often without incisors, or with only the two inner incisors. Here is my Hippo collection: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| Maybe the dentition is not always easy to replicate at such small scales but I think they shouldn't get the number of toes wrong. I love that your collection has hippos of very different quality. |

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] that tiny tiny tiny Fererro one is so cute! I've never seen a hippo so small and I really like the bottom 2 - the light tan coloured one and the one above it. Wonderful collection of hippos :) |

| Oh, this is exciting, to see what you have! I have to agree with Sunny, that tiny tiny hippo is so charming. I also really like the VEB Plaho models! They really have a lot of character. It is strange that the toes are wrong sometimes . . . that seems easy enough to check before sculpting. |
