I don't collect humans, though I like that Inuit family. I would like to get some of the pre-modern hominids (got a couple that I gave as gifts).

Besides the Lego man that is my size gauge, I have this one human figure. And yes, this is how it's displayed in my collection.

Well we are in the Spring of 2020 and due to COVID-19 will summer sport like cricket, tennis and athletics ever take place?

We English love our cricket and whilst I was rummaging around my boxes housing my collection I came across this lovely set of cricket players.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

These cricket players are in 1:43rd scale (40mm) playing a game of street cricket outside the local lock-up garages.

These are made by Anniversary House as cake decorations and date from the 1960's. The set included two wicket keepers, two batsman, two bowlers, two sets of stumps and 'A Happy Birthday' sign. Package states that products may be from more than one country.

They are and it is amazing what one finds at toy fairs. This is where I found this set for 20p - I would have gladly bought them for £2. cheers

The scenery is a garage diorama built by Richard Brady for me to use with my model cars but it has a good use here as a backdrop to these cricket players. I certainly agree with you Susanne these chaps are having a fun time engaged in this game.

Susanne, I had to look up Danish Longball as I have never heard of it before. To be honest I could never hit a cricket ball very well either.  Very Happy

Britains Mini Set Footballers 1131 1:42nd scale

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The Footballers Mini Set was numbered 1131 and the scene was assembled by inserting four items into one large base. Three of these items were figures of footballers: one in attack, doing what a striker should do and score goals; one defending, and not making a good job of it by all accounts, and one goal keeper, who is diving to try and save the ball going into the ‘net’. The final piece was the frame of the goal with posts and crossbar together with, ingeniously, the ball hitting the underside of the crossbar. Play value was enhanced by each of these having bases which could be separated giving never ending possibilities of field positions. The biggest base section allowed the goal frame and the goalkeeper to be on the same baseplate. The top surface is textured to give the appearance of grass. The two outfield players have their own bases, unfortunately without the grass texture, and curiously there is a base section that is just there to hold the other bases together before disassembly. On the latter are the only markings providing evidence of the manufacturer and reads: BRITAINS LTD MADE IN ENGLAND. I have two colour variations of this set with the one illustrated the easier to find. However, I would like to point out that this Mini Set is highly sought after and finding one could take time. I waited half a lifetime to find them but just like buses two came along at once!

'Going on a hike'

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The human figure is made by Barrett & Sons, London, England and is a scarce Airman (pilot) in approx. 40 mm scale - same scale as the Cricketers and Britains Footballers shown above. He is marked "B&S London England" to underside of his domed base.

At present due to the present circumstances 'Going on a hike' is something I cannot do. But I can live a walk through miniature figures and a make believe landscape.

Stay safe everyone.
