Observations/Thoughts:
I love these wolves from Papo, I love wolves as creatures in general, but I do think Papo sculpted these ones excellently, they’re definitely my favourite figures of wolves, even over Schleich. Especially the different coat colour for the reddish tinted one Ruan.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The first one, Athena has a typical howling wolf pose, standing erect with all four paws on the ground and her head raised, mouth open, obviously howling. I do like the pose of her, as it’s nice to see a wolf in a typical pose. She could easily be placed on a rock with a very powerful pose like that and she’s also a hefty chunky model with a light grey colour, with light bands on her legs and paws and somewhat darker shading on her neck and back, she is overall a very nice model of a wolf.

possibly chasing a deer with her pack- she could be posed like that in a story scenario!
I think she’s my favourite wolf as her pose is so well done, it feels very fluid, like she’s genuinely stalking or hunting prey, especially with her elongated foreleg and downward trailing tail. Again, she’s an overall average grey colour with lighter legs and muzzle and a darker back and tail.

It’s not clear if he’s supposed to be a red wolf or not though as he’s not listed as one…
I find this a slightly…strange colour choice for a wolf, especially if he’s not listed as a red wolf or anything, but because there are many Celtic myths about red coloured wolves, I decided to name him Ruan.
He’s an interesting addition to the pack amongst the grey and charcoal wolves I already have. He’s also less smooth to the touch than the others as his coat is made to be all the more curly or shaggy and because of that he feels bumpy? Rough? I’m not sure if I like that detail about him…
He does have a nice pose, maybe a stalking one with the foreleg bending outwards slightly, intently hunting probably, but I find his tail might be a bit too short?
Rating: Athena the Wolf – 4/5
Freya- the Grey Wolf- 5/5
Ruan the Papo Wolf- 3/5
