These guys historically have gone by a few names; canary parrot, shell parrot, zebra parrot, warbling grass parakeet, and undulated parakeet. Budgies originally were green and yellow. A yellow morph was developed with captive breeding, but the first blue wasn't developed until 1878! Lastly, there are now 2 known types: the Australian (closer to its wild ancestors in physique) and the English (slightly larger bodied and bred specifically for the pet trade).

These guys can live to be 50 in captivity, but the oldest recorded wild bird got to be 39! This species features prominently in many mythologies where they are found in the world. And lastly, they appear on roughly 120 stamps for a out 60 different postal organizations!

Nice flock, those storks, even well known, are not easy to be reproduced in miniature !

Scarlet ibises are born black and develop their red feathers around 18 months old. Chicks can also swim long before they learn to fly! This bird is featured on the Trinidad's 1$ bill.

Beautiful wading birds! The rosette spoonbill is one of my favorite figures. I’m so exciting to get Papo’s scarlet ibis!

Woodpeckers!

Pileated woodpeckers have very large nesting holes that they make, and thus are known to snap telephone poles if they choose it to nest in one! They nearly went extinct in the 19th century, but due to protections they now number 2.6 million birds! They are distinguished from other woodpecker species by drilling slowly at first, speeding up, and then trailing off at the end (other species are more consistent in speed).

Beautiful woodpeckers! I remember being awestruck from CollectA's woodpecker when I first heard about the brand. The Bullyland one is very charming!

Their tongues are 6 inches long! Even today, we aren't 100% sure what their bill is for. Lastly, I learned a new term; they are monomorphic (meaning that both males and females are colored/patterned the same, cannot be differentiated by phenotype alone).

Colorful toucans! The Bullyland models are gorgeous. I just wish they were smaller
