| Ooh, I like the fish - the lionfish is a very good model indeed! Is the dark one in the topmost picture the flathead mullet? |

But no wonder that i didn't recognise the peacock cichlid(Astronotus occelatus), as it looks very different. most cichlids have the bass-shape, but the colouration is very different. Here is the real thing:
This fish has very small scales, which gives the idea that he has velvet on his sides. It is one of the most common cichlids from the Amazon region, and big enough to eat him(about 30 cm), which the local people do a lot of course. In the aquariumhobby, this fish is bred in several new colours, like the Red Oscar or albino for example. The colour-pattern of the juveniles is very different from the adult fish... Willy i know you are more a fish expert that i. I bought this fis as a Astronotus occelatus but without a booklet. I have another Yujin fish (blue gill)and the form is exactly the same but the colour isnt it. The problem is i have no booklet from this fish serie and so i ant look. Did you ever manage an ID on the mystery fish? I'm pretty sure it isn't an oscar, because Yujin didn't make one. I have the Yujin frewshwater fishes thread, so it will be in there (except the carp...which it certainly isn't one). _________________ I used to have an online store, but now it's a Blog exploring the variety in my collection! I prefer more the saltwater fishes as the freshwater fishes and so i have only a few. |

It is a japanese blue gill sunfish. I just saw this post...there is no true 'Japanese Blue Gill'. They are an introduced North American species. Like the largemouth and smallmouth bass... - widukind wrote:

I prefer more the saltwater fishes as the freshwater fishes and so i have only a few. I was also looking at this one again--although the angle is awkward, it kind of looks like the Yujin Bluegill, possibly Release 1, which often has very different paint schemes for the more 'complicated' paint jobs. But would need better lighting to be sure! Also, nice new figures--the softshell turtle is one of the few that I intentionally purchased! _________________ I used to have an online store, but now it's a Blog exploring the variety in my collection!
