My Hartland Sheep Empty
PostSubject: My Hartland Sheep   My Hartland Sheep EmptyMon Aug 22, 2011 6:32 am

Hartland was an American toy manufacturer that is probably best known for their horses and their figures of baseball players. I've known about Hartland horses forever, of course, but until this spring I never knew that Hartland made sheep! I confess I haven't done my research yet, and don't know much about these sheep yet but my guess is they are probably 1950-60s.

This pair is from the Nativity set. The Nativity Set came in at least two versions: all white (like these) and painted. There may have been a lamb or two, and if it was like every other nativity set made, there was at least one lamb or sheep lying down.

These are from the Farm set and are on a slightly smaller scale than the Nativity Sheep. I believe the Farm set sheep came in more than one color, but other than the black lamb, i'm not sure who came in what color.

i don't think they did but i'll have to check. I know they made: baseball figures; horses, including many horse & rider sets; horses, dogs and donkeys in Tinymite series; farm play sets; nativity sets; and religious figures, like Mary, Jesus and many saints. I'll make a note to myself to ask someone.

The consensus seems to be that Hartland did not make any wild animals, unless you count the camel in the nativity set - assuming there was a camel. We're pretty sure there was one, but...
The difficulty with Hartland is that the collectors' attention seems to have focused on the baseball players and the horses, and that's what most of the resource material covers.

It's too bad they didn't make wild animals. Their farm animals are charming and their horses are classic.

Don't think Hartland made wild animals, but I know someone I can ask.   I know they made some dogs and cattle; I have a TinyMite Barkie German Shepard and a calf.  I'm guessing the Nativity set had a camel along with the sheep, donkey and cow.

Not that I've ever seen or heard of.  Lots of horses in different sizes, the Nativity sets, some cattle (I have a calf), some dogs, riders for some of the horses, 2 different donkeys (one of which was in the Nativity set), 10 standing gunfighter figures, a large variety of accessories for the western figures and the baseball stuff, but no wild animals.
