| Maybe only improvement would be a thicker neck? |

Maybe, here you have the Spanish red deer, a beardless subspecies where you can see how thick is the neck! |

How can I know it? According with the brand it is a red deer. I don't believe brands work thinking in subspecies. It was only to turn easier to see the thickness of the neck of a male without mane. |

| From wikipedia.com about Red Deer: "Male deer of all subspecies, however, tend to have stronger and thicker neck muscles than female deer, which may give them an appearance of having neck manes." I actually like the sculpt, I just think it would look better with the thick maned neck, regardless of which subspecies. |

| From Wik. about Spanish red deer : "Male Caspian Red Deer (Cervus elaphus maral) and Spanish Red Deer (Cervus elaphus hispanicus) do not carry neck manes.." It is a beautyful animal, Roger. Thanks for the picture Funny how you have interesting subspecies in the Iberian area. Probably due to the high mountains between this huge peinsula and the rest of Europe |

When a brand makes a nice work I think it is good for all of us! I also like the idea of a red deer with a strong neck but it we can find in the Papo figure... so it's nice having more options and that not all figures look alike! Well, that Susanne's picture remembers me that Papo made a doe with spots like a fawn ... but that's another story! |
