I would like to participate in this thread. The problem is that I'm too freak for do that! My goal in life is to have photographed as many species as possible, so when I visit a zoo I took MUCH more photos than any other member of the forum (or any other zoo visitor). So I can't select a few for put in this thread. Also, I take only photos of the animal itself, not the enclosure or surroundings. Always cropped to the maximum.
So, instead putting photos, I will put here a list of zoos visited ordered by number of species photographed in them (I don't photograph all the animals, just the species that I don't have photos of, or the ones that I can have better photos of). After that, I can do a list of species photographed in each of the zoos, and then, if somebody want to see a specific species photographed in a specific zoo, I can put the photo here :-)
Complicated and weird, I know, but it's the only way to be selective Very Happy

Thanks to both! Chester and Dresden are still pending (as are soooooo many other great European zoos). Not sure of which one will be the next.

Some highlights of Kölner zoo!

Asian wild ass (subespecies: Onager), the first animal that one see at the zoo. And it was the only equid species that I lacked photos of, until I saw these beautiful beasts :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Bald ibis! Not my first time seeing this rare species in a zoo, but here are very showy and easy to see for first time.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Black lemur (yellow-fronted subspecies) in motion :-)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Burmese star tortoises, these are very endangered, very distinctive, very beautiful and very rarely seen in zoos!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Scene with capybara, tapirs and zookeeper :) This would be the job of my dreams hehe
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

One of the nicest in the thrush family, the chestnut-backed thrush! This bird is increasingly common in zoos now, while in the past was almost unknown!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Common tern, a species not so often displayed in zoos!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Beautiful crowned lapwing! It lives in a giant dome that is the indoor house for the hippos!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Emperor newt in its mossy enclosure... and I saw a larva of it here too :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Goitered gazelle, as a lover of not often seen hoofstok this one was special for me :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Horse-headed grasshoper, this was my first and, at the moment, my only time seeing a Proscopiidae!!! Yay!!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Adorable puffy chick of an inca tern!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Adult Jack-knifefish, a not so often seen species!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Lake duck, another rarity! The collection of ducks of Kölner zoo is one of the most complete and amazing of any European zoo!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Pair of magpie geese picking grass. A very peculiar species :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A very woolly Musk ox :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

One of the rarest gems of the zoo. Köln zoo have one of the most complete and diverse collections of amphibians of any European zoo, but sadly most of them are behind the scenes. But this Nassau harlequin toad was on display, tough VERY difficult to find in the enclosure!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Northern Luzon giant cloud rat looking at me :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Who doesnt't like okapis?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A splendid Palawan peacock-pheasant!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Palm cockatoos are always a delightful to see! Impressive bill!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The female Peruvian black beauty stick insect must think that one husnabd is not enough... nor two! So she have three husbands mating with her at same time Razz
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Red-shanked douc langur is maybe the most special mammal of the whole zoo!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Ring-tailed mongooses are becoming slowly more popular in zoos.. but still rare
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Ruggie hermit crab... underwater! These crabs are more terrestrial and it's rare to see them submerged (by the way the shell belongs to a terrestrial snal never found in sea)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Sacred baboon with erection Razz
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Expectating group of Siam frogs
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Spectacled owl chick!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Sun bear with the characteristic folded skin
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Trumpeter swan and reflection
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Köln Zoo have a very good monitor collection with some very rarely seen species such as the Turquoise monitor
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Now a selection of what I considere that are my best pics of Loro Park:

Atlatinc puffins. The puffin enclosure is opposite to the penguin enclosure as an ecological comparation or evolutive convergence of alcids with penguins :)

The park have nearly all the species of Psittacula in a row, including rarer and more beautiful species like the Derbian parakeet.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Preening Double-eyed fig parrot, one of the rare little colorful wonders of the parrot world
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The spectacular Flying Gurnards are in the tank of the loggerhead turtle. Shamefully I dind't saw none with the "wings" extended, but the species itself was a dream for me :)

Some of my best photos of San Diego zoo!

African elephant, a true classic for any zoo :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

-African olive pigeon in one of the walkthrough aviaries
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

-Allen's swamp monkey is rarely seen in zoos! They share enclosure with equally rare spotted-necked otters, that, sadly, I was unable to see Sad
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The very attarctive and popular Amazon milk frog
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

In one of the aviaries the Andean cock-of-the-rocks are so tame that you could touch them!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Lovely Asian elephant :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The Bali mynah is the only vertebrate endemic to Bali island in Java. It would be extinct if not by captive breeding. Now is very popular in zoos.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Black-legged poison frog, one of these frogs is enough to kill an elephant Razz
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Blesbok resting in the shadow
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Bipedal Bonobo :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Fabulous Grizzly!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Maybe the nicest of the genus, the collared imperial pigeon
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

This common bulbul let me to approach very close :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Very intereting is the small terrarium with coprophagous scarab beetles they have in the Elephant complex, explaining how related species recycle the droppings of elephants in Africa. These bugs are unsigned to species level but they was identified as Canthon pilularius that is a local species :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Crested oropendola hanging upside down!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Crested screamer, a relative to the duck family but with not webbed feet
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Dead leaf mantis honouring its nickname :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Spectacular emerald starling in a walkthrough aviary
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

One of the rarest reptilian treasures of the zoo, the Ethiopian mountain adder!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Gerenuks kissing I love you
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Giant danio is the only fish that I've photographed in the zoo, as first time seeing this species. An open-topped aquarium pannel inside one of the aviaries, filled with common Asiatic aquarium fishes, is all what they have in terms of fishes. As they have an atonishing collection of tetrapods, it's not worrying the lack of fishes Very Happy
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Giant horned lizard sunbathing :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Golden coin turtle swimming underwater in the turtle building complex
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The magnificent Great Argus!

A rescued Great blue heron with a broken wing, unreleasable
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The rarely seen great blue turaco, what a magnific bird :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Beautiful bluish morph of the green tree python :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A bit horny Grevy's zebra
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Nice grey-headed goose in the flamingo pond
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Beautiful guanaco. What reminds me that I want the Papo one Very Happy
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

What a luxuriant plumage that of the Himalayan monal!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Jackass penguin, before they was moved to a new exhibit shared with leopard sharks cheers
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Mating Jungle nymphs, showing the extreme sexual dimorphism of this species
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

It was the first time that I saw the dreamed Kaiser's spotted newts!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Also a lifer for me was the precious Lesser kudu Very Happy They share their exhibit with very active Speke's gazelles :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Another rare gem, the milky stork!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Portrait of the critically endangered Narrow-headed softshell turtle, an enormous individual of a species that very very few zoos keep in the world!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Oriole warbler is another rarity in the walktrough aviaries :)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
