Males usually have a few small black spots on their wings and sometimes also on lower parts of their belly. Purely white male is quite rare, I believe. At least there are not many photos of these. Btw, if you saw at least any promos from Harry Potter films with snowy owl, Hedwig - in books Hedwig is female, but in films the character was played by male owls _________________ ~Magda (formerly Mangalarga) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Blog | Facebook |

I haven't seen Harry Potter movie though but I know what it is I'm not snowy owl expert but I think they are really beauties It's even nice that it's more popular thanks to Harry Potter, so we can buy many different figures of this wonderful, magnificent bird I get my info about them mostly from arkive.org and wikipedia so only basic information so far. Thank You for Your interesting additional info! Here is nice photo of all white male, and in this link there is few more of them, I think maybe they become more white with age, yes? [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Here also several wonderful photos including entirely white males [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Still, even if they have most of the time very few of grey dots, models from Schleich or Safari would need repaint to look like male Snowy Owl :) |

Roger : I love Safari Snowy Owl the pose is beautiful, it's easy to imagine wind between her feathers :) And I think it would be interesting to make pair with Schleich one, but one of them would need repaint, otherwise You would have pair of two females :) Males are all white, aren't they?
I'm an openminded crocodile, that's what is called winds of change! The Safari is surely a female, she has a lot of highliner. You are right, see some usefull information about snowy olws in Animal Diversity Web "Snowy owls are predominantly white with dusky brown spots and bars. Females tend to have more markings than males, which may become nearly completely white as they age. Young snowy owls are generally darker and more heavily marked than adults. Snowy owls have yellow eyes and their legs and feet are covered in white feathers that protect them from the cold weather." |

Thank You for the link and info Roger! I'm also open minded, so it wouldn't be any problem to have 2 females in owl's couple :) But I would prefer if they may bring some young owls, because I want more and more Snowy Owls in my collection |

| You have a lovely group of Owls,Alex! It seems like the eyes of your Snowy Owl are more yellowish like Hariett's one.(HKHollinstone) Mine has more greenish eyes. :) |

Welcome) Yes, I do. I like birds of prey, though owls aren't my favourite (hawks and falcons are my love of a lifetime:))) Thanks:) Oh, I've forgotten the wooden one. I'll try to get her pics and add at the weekends) |

| Beautiful group of owls Daria, great to see that! And great to hear about Your love to birds of prey For me it's impossible to say which are my favorite, maybe owls, but when I start to think I love eagles as well and then falcons and then ospreys But then not only birds of prey.... well no, I can't choose my favorite How do You choose Your favorites? I see on Your photo that Schleich Snowy owl is actually bigger than Safari ltd one, isn't it? _________________ Anna Horse and Bird studio - Horse sculptures My model horse collection
