I am interested also on history. And so i know, animal models will produced since the stone age. Here you can see a replica of a pig (1600-1500 before christi), that was found in my hometown in the late 90s.

They are wonderful model Very Happy
You live in a great place, so much history and wildlife cheers

Sometimes, when I walk on the beach I find stones that remind me of some animal.
When my son was little, we used to have fun, sayuíng WOW ! Here is a fossile seal..or pig..or bird. Laughing Laughing
Perhaps that was how it started...somebody improved a bit on a stone, they found, and then they made them better and better ?

It must have taken a lot of time to make, - Some stone age parents have loved their children very much.

Or perhaps they were lucky charms for hunters ? Or both drunken

That's a terrific subject, Andreas! Thanks for showing and I hope more people adding some information about it. I love this subject! :)
I never thought before of a pig before Kristie! Wink pig Laughing
It would be also interesting to see the use of animal sculptings in old monuments, etc. :)

Hello all,
I send you a link to photos of the eldest animal figures ever found. There is lot of research on this subject in Germany because here exists a cave, which is famous for these findings. The site is in german and there a even more links from each animal figure to museums and more pictures. The oldest figure (an astonishing, perfectly carved mammut) is about 32-33.000 years old and perfectly carved from ivory.

It´s a veeeeeeeeeery interesting topic, because animal figures are even older than many other found human (feminine) figures. Some years ago I read more about this topic and found a huge amount of information about it.
I will look for more informative websites!

Hope you enjoy this stunning internet-journey through ancient times, which are the source of all the following artists, that created animal figures.
