| Now I have also my very first "Masse" aninmals in my collection. I bought 13 of them on eBay from one seller. They are about 80 years old, says the seller. The Lion is Elastolin. Who is the manufacturer of the other animals and how old they might be ? What do you think? Here are photos of of the lion, the camel and the buffalo. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The lion ist from ELASTOLIN, look also please the last photo. How old can it be ? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Tremendous figures, Yvette! I really love them a lot and surely don't remember seeing them before even the skiny cow topic is in my memory but much more because of the magnificent work with the oryx. :) Is there any vintage figure that Sue and Lesley do not recognise? |

| Thank you, everyone, we are happy to help when we can! And we would love to see the rest of the animals. - Roger wrote:

There are many figures, old and new, which we do not recognise - that is a very good reason to belong to this forum! Someone is always willing to help out. We are "vintage" ourselves and it is always odd to see figures which we still think of as "new", but then to realise that they are 40 or 50 years old! Sue & Lesley castlerigg |

| Brown bear, tiger and elephants are HAUSSER.
Mandrill and Hamadryas are TIPPLE-TOPPLE ( so maybe HAUSSER too)

| Christophe is right, in the 1930's, you could have bought all of these animals from your local Hausser/Elastolin stockist. Except for the Water Buffalo and the Hippopotamus. The Water Buffalo is Marolin ... maybe the Hippo is also Marolin?
Does anyone out there know?

| I can only add some extra information, as Les and Sue, and Christiphe already answered most of the questions here! Marolin was a company from Germany, before the WW2, and after that is was taken over as a state-company by the DDR gouvernment, and was changed into the VEB Plaho company, and after the fall of the wall, the came back to the name Marolin. Lineol made very accurate models already in the 1930's, made after zoo-animals in the Berlin zoo, and after the WW2 they started again, as their productions had no major losses in the war-time. But as shortly after the war the Sovjets ruled everything, the company was ceased by the state to, and lots of their moulds went to the Plaho(former Marolin company), and were made there under that name in plastic, although in a much smaller scale. But their models are often very recognisable, as their models are very accurate, even better as many modern brands! Hausser was making nice models to, but less accurate in the sence of looking like in real nature. Tipple Topple was Austrian, and Pfeiffer to by the way, but was taken over in the early 1900's by the German Hausser company, which used many of their moulds, and that is why it is hard to tell sometimes if a model was made by the first or the second... Hausser came with the name Elastolin for their products, and is still used today by the Preiser company, which took over the Hausser company in the late 1980's, or at least lots of their moulds. Just google some of the names, and you find enough about those companies, and you will find out about their models to. We have a lot of catalogues on the forum here in that particular section, where you can find most of those models made in those times. Otherwise people like Lesley and Sue, Christophe, or even i can help you out hopefully... |

| Wow, that little hippo and waterbuffalo are very nice! But i don't use paypal, and for that it is not easy for me to buy in the UK... Yes Christophe, i see that a lot of times with those older models, as they had a lot of different versions to, and some are just worn off a lot, so the details are gone then...

| Willy: Thanks for the advice. The theme "Lineol /Elastolin/Marolin animals" is still new for me. I've found about Elastolin / Hausser / Marolin some interesting things on the Internet. Also interesting stories about history on various Internet sites. There is an German adage: Man sieht nur das, was man weiß! - you see only that, you knows!
Christophe: Very interesting variation. The lines from my animal seems a few more distinct. It seems really, you have ther more modern version with very nice details and certainly a better paint.
Sue & Lesley: Many thanks for showing the auctions. I will observe them.
