My Building Empty
PostSubject: My Building   My Building EmptySun Oct 03, 2010 11:31 pm

Hi Everyone. I have been very busy over the last couple of weeks to a month. This building is going to be my library/collectables/hobby room. It is a 16 x 32 building that we had built and I have done most of the work since it was built. I ran all the wires for the electricty, put in the insulation, helped my brother sheetrock it, painted it, tiled the front 8 feet, carpeted the rest of it, and put up trim and shelves. I am finally starting to move my stuff in slowly. I have taken some pictures to show some of the progress. I hope to have the rest of my books and shelves put in soon so I can start on all my animals. Time for some photos.

This is what it looks like from the outside. (Old picture. No snow on the ground now)

This is once we got the sheetrock hung in the ceiling and the first wall sheetrocked.

Painted.

Trim and 1st shelf hung.

Carpet down.

These shelves cover 3 of the 4 walls. All my boxed animals, knights, elves and whatever else will fit will be on these. One wall has more room between the shelf and the ceiling and it will hold the bigger items.

I have 2 of these shelves, one on each side of the window. These will hold some of my animals.

Some of my knights. These will be moved to the shelf around the room starting with number 70001 and going in order, but I have to get the rest of them out of my scrapbook room first.

My first bookcases that I put together with a few of my books on them.

A few sneak peaks at one of the shelves.

I hope you enjoyed my sneak peak into my building. If I am not on for a couple of days you will know where I am.

Thank you for sharing your building photos Amy queen I was wondering how it was coming along and when we might see some pix. It looks great! You have your work cut out for you setting up everything to your liking. It will be nice for you to have a retreat with all your books and collectibles. Do you have a heat source? Do you often get snow in the winter where you live? santa Well it looks like you can now see an end in sight! cheers

A dream premise of a collector, not less!
But how will you fight with the dust? As I can see, your shelves are not protected with glass doors.

PostSubject: Re: My Building   My Building EmptySun Oct 10, 2010 1:15 am

I'm glad you all enjoyed the sneak peek into my building. I am still hard at work moving things in. I am glad you all enjoyed the whales. I especially love them. I am hoping to set up something behind them to make it look like they are in the ocean when I am finished, or at least water. As far as the dust, I am hoping, when finished getting everything set up, to put plexiglass doors on the shelves and some type of plexiglass from on top of the bookcases to protect the animals that will be displayed there. There shouldn't be too much dust in there because it is pretty sealed. I will be putting more sealant around the one window and the door seals really tight. In fact, it seals so tight that sometimes my daughter can't push the door open. The only real place that I see dirt coming in is through the air conditioner. It is also a heater, so there is my heat source. As far as snow, we don't get much snow. Last year was a good year and I think we got snow 3 times. We are usually only lucky enough to get snow once a year. It doesn't stick around too much.
I pulled my shoulder yesterday, so I haven't got to do as much as I wanted yesterday and today. Hopefully it will feel better tomorrow and I can do some more work. I still have a lot of things to move. I got my wooden shelf set up with some of my horses, but hope to find the rest of them to display soon. I will take more pictures when I get a chance. It is turning out exactly as I pictured it so far. I am extremely happy with it.

Fortunately one of my neighbours is a shoe-a-holic, so I am never in need of boxes Wink

That is good in your case. I will be happy to get most of mine out of boxes. I have made some progress, but still moving stuff in and not getting to set up my animals yet. I can tell you that each knight on box and each western figure and indian on box are almost 32 feet when lined up side by side. The elves are almost 16 feet if you don't count their accessories. I will try to take some photos soon to show more progress.

Wow Amy, finally you have your room ready to go in with all of your stuff!
Congratulations girl, great job! Very Happy
It will look awesome as all of your collections are inside! cheers

I will create a room for my collections too around here, it will be much smaller then yours, and i guess, there will be not enough space in time, but that is another story...
First some work on the other rooms around here, like my fish-tank room.

Anyway, finally done for you, and now comes the nice work for you, displaying your collection, this must be nice after all that time! queen

Yes, I have been working hard to get my stuff in there so I haven't been on the forum much. I am waiting for a new memory card for my camera so I can take some photos of the progress. When it is finished it will look a little different from the first pictures. I still have a lot of moving in and organizing to do, but I am seeing some progress.

Here is a sneak peak at one of my displays. It is not finished yet. I still have another castle to set up and more knights still in a box.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The 2 trees will not stay there, they have specific scenes they are intended for. The apple tree goes on my farm scene and the fig goes on my wildlife scene/diorama. I still have a lot of work to do before I can start either one of them.

That will be a fantastic scene Amy!
Airco or not, i love the smell of older plastics when i open up some of my vitrines, specially those who contain the stuff of the 1950's and 1960's, they remember me of my youth!(ok, i am from 1962, but the smell is the same...) Laughing scratch

Yes, that is an air conditioner above the table, but it is also a heater.

Yesterday I worked in my building for most of the day. I emptied about 20 boxes or so and moved some stuff out and had to stop and play for a while. It is always fun to be able to play.

Here is what I created. I have been wanting to do something like this for a while, so here it is.

My Sea Life display.

I am not quite finished with it, but I am liking the results so far. Let me know what you think.
