| Ana, Harriet, Bojan, Kelsey, Kristie, Taylor, Andreas, Jonesee, Scott and Susanne, !!! Scott, as a hyenas lover I am sure you will make a fantastic work with yours. - Bojan wrote:
- Sometimes I think that people that now work at Schleich are idiots or just greedy. They can make such nice animals for their "fantasy" series, but not for their normal animal line. That porcupine is very good and the pose of the cheetah, the black jaguar (even if it's a repaint) looks much better than this new panther. And the mighty elephant and rhinoceros are just beautiful, but with all the attachments I don't want them. I'm still thinking about getting that hyena (freaking collar!!!!) since it's going to be retired in 2013. Make that hyena for animal line without the collar!

Congratulations Roger & Yvette! Bojan, surely Schleich designers are not idiot. What happens is that the animal series is getting more and more designed to very young children. You can see the figures smiling, the choices of very known animals and the cuteness being the main factor of their design. Bayala looks targeted to pre-teenagers what result in figures with a more impressive and realistic looking. Like you, I spend a lot of time in local shops and we can see clearly the enthusiasm of little kids with the small cute animals while older boys and girls give more atention to Baialas and fantasy lines. Schleich is taking their targets too seriously and unfortunately they are forgeting that their horses (mainly) are often collected for adultes, I know, mainly ladies love a touch of cuteness but I am afraid the Barbie exagerated looking will make some of older collectors indecisive. It doesn't surprise me seeing some of those collectors being more and more interested in CollectA horses. |

| Congratulationes my friend on your newbies! (o)): Great catches! For me it is the same as for Christophe, i don't want the Bayala figurines, and to buy these makes that expensive. Sooner or later they will be coming to my collection, but they are low on my list for obvious reasons... |

| I'll use this topic to show my additions during 2013 and maybe also show some of the last of previous year. It is an exciting year and it is starting in a very generous way. The first figure I've bought is surprisingly the Safari red lady bug. I don't collect insects, it is only the favorite animal of my wife. Doesn anyone knows the species? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Safari red lady bird Then 2 cheap finds on a Portuguese auction website. The New-Ray anteater and a retired Schleich polar bear cub sitting. This last one will almost surely enter my niece's collection. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]New-Ray Giant anteater [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Schleich polar bear cub sitting and Safari Arctic fox Extraordinarily exciting was to receive my first Epoch figure. This tremendous Egyptian vulture, a gift from Christophe, together with the little and old Safari Arctic fox above and some Good Luck minis. I love so much that Japanese figures that I opened a topic to make some considerations about it. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] The old Safari Arctic fox will join all my other foxes. Does anyone knows from what series that figure belongs? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Epoch Egyptian Vulture Also exciting gifts are these 2 wonderful Papo meerkats, those are also generous gifts from our friend Gab, unfortunately less active these days but kind enough to send these figures to me. Although all good opinions of everyone about them, they overlaped my expectations, these figures are superb. The sitting meerkat with the tail pointed forwards is already my favorite suricate of all. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Finally, also my first Tipple Topple figure, the Barbarie Ape. It was broken and forgoten in Holand waiting for Ana coming from Poland, geting it, showing on forum and after a good restoration sending it to Portugal. I wonder how was the story of that figure before arriving to Dutch shop. Surely many stories to tell has this very old composition macaque. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Thanks Christophe, Gab and Ana!!! Even without a 2013 figure in my collection, this year is being already fantastic! :D

| That arctic fox... Not sure to laugh or cry, he's like . But somehow there's a certain charm of the imperfect. |

| At least Schleich is being consistent. The new 2013 baby crocodile is also listed as a Osteolaemus tetraspis, a Dwarf Crocodile. (I find this slightly odd, quite honestly.) |

This is one of the few Schleich misteries. It is great that the baby is identified as being the same species although we know those are not dwarf crocodiles. This year we have the seals but I noticed that Schleich is not identifying their gazelles as Couvier's gazelles anymore. Now they are labeled as Thomson's gazelles what we always thought they were. It is great that they corrected it but it is hard to understand why it happens. |

| Thanks Carola, Paige, Bojan, Alvaro and Willy! In a luso-serbian cooperation, Robert helped me finding some more CollectA and a fox. Some are returning others are completely new First some European little animals and a red deer. I was curious about the deer, it is nice but still not a deer like I'd loved to have. I hope some brand can find a way to make a really excelent red deer. Little boys have found some place because they were cheap but I have to stop with these little things next time. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]CollectA red deer, rabbit, brown hare, beaver and badger Here a new and very interesting representation of a mountain goat, it has some very good points, first it doesn't look like a goat what is good considering that it is not a goat indeed. The body is bulky and fur looks also nice. The skunk is one more. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]CollectA Mountain goat and striped skunk My only modern ostrich was the famous Schleich with 3 toes I received from Susanne, after the funny character, here a serious ostrich as long as it is possible to this kind of companies. I acquired also the new Schleich chimp, not as nice as it looked in Scott pictures but generally it has a good shape and it is less comic than previous one. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]CollectA ostrich and Schleich chimpanzee Sorry for my pictures, the ladybug is very dark, it is an excelent figure and is joining my Safari ladybug. Surprisingly realistic! Also, the beautiful Arctic fox from Schleich, the famous short haired fox like in Summer but the beautiful white color of Winter. This is the made in Germany version that will join my Chinese sister! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]CollectA ladybug and Schleich Arctic fox (Germany) Some figures are good, others are very good and some can give us the big joy of being collectors! This eland is magnificent and I'm glad Robert found it because locally they haven't arrived yet. I hope I'll be able of geting the waterbuck too! | Another interesting batch Rogério I especially like the COLLECTA ostrich which is a SOMALI ostrich I will try to catch one and make a meeting with the SAFARI Ltd one I don't like, in the other hand, the beaver... There is something I can't understand on this toy Now a few requests: Could you make a walkaround of the deer and a comparison topic between the COLLECTA and the MÖJO skunks ? Big congratulation for this eland (o)): |
