| Hello friends :) This month I bought quite interesting set of animals, birds and reptiles from Galapagos island. Islands are unique places of our planet, because of isolation, they are often homes for unique species. Fauna on Galapagos islands is fascinating example of that rule. I think, if I would ever start diorama, it would be diorama of one island, perhaps one of Galapagos islands In Bandai set each animal came with additional natural elements like rocks or plants. They are, in most cases not attached to animal but some of the animals can't stand on flat ground. Whenever it was possible I display animals without these elements because I prefer animals alone :) Here are reptiles from this set grouped together :) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And here birds all together: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Review of each of the reptiles first :) Land Galapagos Iguana, species is endemic for Galapagos islands, You can read more on wikipedia [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] In the set are two figures of marine iguanas, one swimming and one heating itself on the rock :) They are only modern lizards that search food in the ocean These reptiles exist in in number of subspecies but I don't know which of them are represented in Bandai figures. More info can be also found on wikipedia [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]First goes swimming one, I think it's my favorite from this pair [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And here the one that sits on the rock :) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And last reptile from this set is Galapagos tortoise :) He came with Opuntia too, his food haha [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Even though it is representation of the biggest specie of tortoise on the World, it is quite small figure, here size comparison with baby tortoise by Schleich [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]In next post I will send also review of each birds from the set _________________ Anna Horse and Bird studio - Horse sculptures My model horse collection

| My favorite bird from this set is Great Frigatebird (Fregata minor). Figure show male sitting on the nest, showing his red gular sac, iconic element of this beautiful bird More info here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Frigetebird is not attached to the nest, however he looks strange when put on the flat ground. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Another lovely and colorful bird from the set is Blue Footed Booby with chick. Strange fact about this bird is in Polish language it's name sounds Głuptak what means "stupid bird", the name doesn't suit this fascinating species with unique hunting technique in my opinion :) More info to read here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And here compared with Kaiyodo Blue Footed Booby [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And now the bird which no one could call stupid, in fact it's very intelligent bird which uses tools to catch food: Woodpecker finch. Here shown with sticks, searching food in the fallen tree :) Here more info [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]There was also penguin in the set, Galapagos penguin (no surpise ) he came with rock but he can easily stand without it too :) The only penguin species that lives North to the Equator in the wild Perhaps the only figure of this species More to read [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] The animals came with card: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]and here it is scanned [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I must say it's very easy to get fascinated by Galapagos fauna, it's absolutely unique. This set remind me how amazing treasure is life on our planet _________________ Anna Horse and Bird studio - Horse sculptures My model horse collection

| Wow congratulations, Anna! That set is wonderful!
And.. it brings some memories to me. When I was a kid in the 80s, our family has just gotten a VCR player and my first recorded tape was a document about the Galapagos Islands. I used to watch it over and over again... I regocnize most of the species in this Bandai set from that document :)
That swimming marine iguana is probably my favourite! But I like the frigate bird a lot too. They are all amazing. :) _________________ Krista || zombiebambiraptor.blogspot.com

| That is a fantastic contribution to our forum, Ana! It is a pleasure to watch your beautiful pictures of these interesting figures. Safari Ltd released some time ago a Galapagos toob with, among others, a Galapagos penguin. Thanks!!! |
