Bai Long Ma - the white Dragon Horse

Happy Chinese New Year!!

I thought this could be a chance to share one of the most bizarre models created by Schleich: simply advertised as "magical Asian being" this figure actually represents Bai Long Ma (白龍馬) or White Horse Dragon, a mythological beast from China.

In the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West, Bai Long Ma volunteers as the steed of Xuanzang, a naive but well-meaning Buddhist monk, who has embarked on an adventurous quest to retrieve some sacred scriptures from India along with his 3 unruly, improbable disciples (and whose chief occupation is rescuing him from trouble ) - the Monkey King, the river ogre and the pig-man.

BTW, could anybody tell me if this figure has been discontinued? I haven't got hold of the 2013 catalogue yet.
