| Hi! A while back, I started to sculpt a brown bear. It's taken a while to get it finished, but I thought I'd see what y'all thought. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]In person, the colors on the claws and paws look a little bit more distinct from the fur. But in the photo it's hard to tell they're different colors. I figure I'll repaint them to make them more distinct. I also want to repaint the eyes, but when I tried to paint them black, they just sort of blended in with the brown fur on the bear. Any advice on how to make them show up better? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]You can probably see that the proportions are a little off and the bear is sort of asymmetrical. I'll try not to make this kind of mistake in the future. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here's a shot of the sculpt (before casting and painting) alongside a Britains tiger to show its scale. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Any advice you have on painting would be very much appreciated! |

| Oh, wow!!! I LOVE this bear! Considering your hesitate, I would only make paws a bit darker. I would leave the eyes black and make them shiny by, for example, nail polish :) |

| Very nice sculpt (o)): I can't see what is so asymmetrical and is it really a problem ? We are all asymmetrical The proportions are not so bad, not worse than a SCHLEICH... I like it very much. About the eyes, what I would try to do is to to paint a small lighter brown line around the eyes and paint the eyes with a glossy black. |

| I love your bear ! He is both beautyful and charming Christophe is right , it is fine, that he is a little asymetrical, actually it is a plus, IMHO . The eyes are also nice, makes him look a little sleepy, like he just sat down to think about the nice salmons he just ate You did a fantastic job ! All that detail on such a small model !

| Great job! Judging by his face, he looks like a kind old grandpa bear. that is meant as a compliment. |

| Oh, what a wonderful brown bear! He looks to have a lot of character He almost looks like a Buddha, just as a bear. He seems to express the same kind of peace and wisdom. |

| He looks a lot like the wooden carvings they have around here of actual sized animals. A few towns away there is a store that sells life sized moose and bear statues that are fairly similar to yours. You did a great job on the details like the nose, eyes, fur etc. I would only suggest a glossy black for the eyes, and maybe put a darker brown on the claws as others have suggested. Once again, wonderful job! |

| Many thanks to all of you for your kind responses and advice!
As for the symmetry, I thought one forepaw looked a bit longer than the other, but on second glance it's not as noticeable as I had worried.
I'll work on the eyes and paws this weekend and post pictures for you as soon as I can.
Thanks again! |

Hi tqcenter; welcome to the forums! And thanks - I'm glad you like the bear! I'm sorry I didn't post pictures of the repaint a long time ago, but in the end, I felt like the differences were slight, so I didn't bother. I'll take some new pictures, though, and add them. I can't today because it's cloudy, and I've needed natural light to for my camera. I'll take some as soon as I can, though. Thanks again! |

| Hi there, tqcenter, Sorry to take so long getting back to you. Christmas came along with lots of family and activities, followed by a bit of illness. I've also had some trouble photographing - it's hard to get lighting right. But I've finally taken some pictures of the wee bear. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" /> [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" /> [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" /> As recommended, I added glossy-black paint to the eyes. I went ahead and added it to the nose, too. The paw-pads were redone with a dark grey, and the claws with a light grey. Sorry about getting the fingers in the pictures - For whatever reason, my camera seemed to get more of the bear's detail when I held it up just so. |
