This is reedition (as the elephant was) from Shinobu Matsumura sculpt. If you have Kaiyodo 40th Anniversary official guide, see the page 163 (there are more figures in the original line - cheetah, smilodon, orang-utan, macaw...).

Very interesting Andreas! It should belong to a special series. The tag is quite informative once we can see manufacturer, year, product number and even the material. It is also not too huge, if it was not the prohibitive shipping, I'd consider getting it. Not many humboldt penguin chicks are known in toy figure.

I have no idea, we have a K&M humboldt penguin listed but it was Beatrice who introduced it htere. It is not on 2004 catalogue and the product number starts with 4 while those listed start with 5 and 6. Something to find out.

We can find, however, on 2004 catalogue, some large figures with the AZA logo that we also can see in the penguin chick tag.
This is a strange series once we can also find moulds we known from AAA and others we've never seen in any other brand.
