I like both the mare and the foal.
The foal has a strange colour, though scratch
Is it supposed to be a buckskin?
Maybe they want to indicate that the lower legs become black as it sheds the foal-coat.
But that begins from up, and not from the hooves, - I think they really didn`t think about making a real colour Laughing

Perhaps Sylvia knows? You know a lot about unusual colours, Sylvia Very Happy

For me he's just some kind of dun.As long as she's just a foal now, it's hard to say what color exactly it is, I think)

The foal it´s strange, because it hasn´t got those dark coronets in the catalogue image :S

A buckskin has dark points... Including legs. So maybe your´s could be like a buckskin, but not the one in the catalogue. Or maybe it could be a buckskin with really low points (wild bay based) with white socks. But it seems the socks are not ver well defined.

Does it has the dorsal stripe? If does, it´s some kind of dun. If not, it´s not a dun.

Can´t wait to have it and decide its coat haha!

EDITED: after searching a bit I´ve seen some buckskin foals are born without dark legs (they get dark when change the foal coat) so I supose it could really be a buckskin. And see: palomino sire and bay dam! It suits well Razz

Aaaaaargh ! No 3 and 4 are equal affraid
What do I do ? Throw a coin ? scratch

Silvia, - no it doesn`t have a dorsal stripe Wink
I think the Stallion is chestnut, but the mare COULD have a hidden creme gene.
I have seen at least two dark bay Icey mares having a BEC-foals.

But honestly, I don`t think Schleich has given it a lot of thought Wink

Cream gene is always visible, as far as I know. Maybe the stallion could be a dark variant of palomino? scratch
Anyway, genetics (and colours in general) in Schleich horses is far from realistic IMO Razz

In Iceys it is not alway visible. I have on two occations seen black mares with double-dilute foals , a dark bay mare gave a buickskin foal with a sire who certainly didn`t have cream gene ( he had 100s of offspring) - and on Iceland a BEC mare was mother to at least 3 black and two dark bay offspring. These were all registered, and chipmarked while with their mom. They MUST have had the cream gene.

But you are right! Not many model horse makers care about the heredity of colours.
Breyer also made an overo Icey, which doesn`t exist geek

Ok, I did some quick research, and actually a cream gene can be "hidden" only in black heterozygous horses (having one copy of this gene). They are called "smoky black" and usually are not much different from sun-faded "normal" blacks.
But not in chestnuts, as single copy of this gene affects red pigment.

Maybe that buckskin foal after a dark bay mare wasn't actually buckskin? scratch

Anyway, while reading about the genetics of horse colour I've learned one thing - there are some cases where only a DNA testing can reveal the true colour of the horse Wink

Ohh, you can trust my word, - I have been breeding horses with cream gene for 30 years Wink

That foal was a buckskin, and that mare wasn`t smoky, - she was BLACK!
I went to see her for hours on end, - in different weather, differnet light, different times of the year...she was BLACK, not smoky. Well, of course, as a genotype she was, bot phaenotypic, there was absolutely no difference from other black horses.

Buckskins can also have a dorsal stripe without having the D-gene, btw. Iceys often have Wink

This guy, Kristall, is a typical dark buckskin, but they can be much harder to spot among dark bays Wink

I think both sire and dam are sooty dilutions! hehe Sire is a sooty palomino, and dam is a sooty buckskin Razz

And yes, 1 single cream can be hidden ina black horse. In fact sometimes there are not known to be cream dilutions until they have offpsring!
