The SCHLEICH 14658 elephant calf walkaround by Kikimalou

It's not a secret...    I dislike the SCHLEICH adult elephants !  

So... Why a walkaround ?

Because I felt in love with the new African elephant calf. It is a very very good figure    I would like SCHLEICH make the others as realistic and beautiful as this one... But I guess it's only a dream.

I fully agree that the elefant calves are the absolute winners among the Schleich this year

The Indian one is beautyful, too.
She must be only a few days old, and the cute look is just right for that age, IMHO

This little elephant is a good example to show a figure can be realistic and cute. Baby animals are so cute they don't need cutesy. Cutesy ruins a figure.

The cute style works nicely in babies very often. Anyway I can see the same problems even those are not as noticiable in babies. These legs are also chubby for a baby and the tail very thick.The figure is nice and makes me think that some adulte elephants look really large babies with tusks.

Some new adult elephant models don't even look like big babies with tusk, they are worse than that. They look like 1/32 elephant with 1/20 heads and 1/25 legs

The proportion & texture is good. I don't like the adult too!

I agree entirely. When these elephants became available, I picked this calf up right away but I haven't touched the others yet. This figure is so great and the adults are disappointing. For one thing, I don't see how the adult (both African and Asian) are in any way an improvement over (or even significantly different from) the now-retired models.

I agree! To me the calf that Schleich made was a bit older looking than the ones pictured, which appear to be a little younger. But thanks for posting the pics.

Great pictures! I had no idea how odd the calves looked. Several figures no longer look so bad to me; apparently they were sculpted more correctly than I realized.

Yes, but your picture shows that the shape of the forehead of the figure is wrong. Also the lower maxila, more correct for an Asian elephant. Anyway an interesting figure, not terrible as its parents. That little creature remembers me another replica!

Maybe it's the forehead sculpt (Kind of tapir'ish as it leads into the trunk) and the trunk's a bit to thick(Just comparing to your photos of the calf's small slender trunk).
