I think I have shot 2000 pictures of this lovely guy, but I can`t seem to get black models right

When I make pics of black models, I avoid contrast, so the background is dark and the light is as scattered as possible, no direct sunlight. With this, I'm sure the details in the black parts will be upload by the camera. I use a tripod of course.  

After loading the pics on my computer, I use Lightroom to organize and developp them. The job is to show all the details in the darkest part of the animal without burning the highlights.
I used to make and work on pics for nearly 35 years now    

Of course it is the same for white models !

The only change is that I used to make photos for 40 years now
