2014 African Wildlife from all brands - Updated 20 january

Here is a place to post and discuss all the 2014 African Wildlife models from all the manufacturers. New official Pics will be added on the first post when available.

That rhino has some ENORMOUS feet  
It looks like a calf with premature horns ...what a shame. Safari has made some beautyful rhinos before

I think the issue with the rhino is #1 the texture looks odd to me and #2 the feet are big, much to fat looking for an adult like you said Susanne. Their previous rhino's in the past were very good but this is a bit disappointing...

I can add also that it needs a more natural muscular expression on body flanks and a better shaped head. Though, I absolutly love the pose and strenghth of this elephant rhino, it has the character of a black with legs placed and moving in a very natural motion, the detail of the tail is excelent, only I would love the head lowered a little and it would be perfect. I don't know if the massive paws are to help balancing a figure that is in a complicated pose and is surely heavy. It could also mean that the figure has limbs below the body and not spread apart what would result very unpleasant. I think I'll get it if Mr. money allows.

I am surprised at Safari's Black Rhino as last years new White Rhino was fantastic. However, pictures can be deceiving as I found out with the new Safari Wildebeest. I agree his toes are rather large, his head rather small, the texture of his body is odd, and the facial expression, eyes and mouth, is strange. I love his running pose, however, with tail in air.

Hippo is sooooooooooo much better and very welcomed compared to the gray, long-bodied hippo Safari produced years ago. I like the color but wish it was walking or had it head up with mouth closed.

But, of course, I will purchase them as soon as they are set loose!

I Thought about the Ankole family...   It is a domesticated species so I didn't add it here. It would be nice to know other members feeling about this  

I understand what Shawn mean with these cattle but my opinion is that its place is in a page dedicated to farm animals together with the Safari Porc Blanc de l’Ouest... translatable as Western white pig well, no idea about the breed of the little big pig but surely it doesn't belong to a specific continental wildlife fauna.

You're touching an interesting point, there is a breed of cattle in Portugal and Spain that is created in a complete wild condition, it is Raça Brava that means feral cattle that unfortunately is used to bullfighting. You have it in Papo and Bullyland range and Schleich released it last year. There are also other creatures that are very close to the border between domesticated and wild like many camelids. :)

Obviously there are pets and domesticated animals that break free, let go or run away and become feral. But for the most part, they are technically domesticated by nature. Look at the wild horses that range all over the world. Or the stray dogs and cats. Poor things.

I hope of any new species for my zoo

Unless in Australia they can feel wild, reintroduced but wild.

The feral animals exist all over the world. Actually the wild Dromedaries extinct about 3000 years ago. There is only about 900 wild Bactrian camels still exsist.  For example the scientist thinks that  European mouflon is not truly species, but feral domesticated sheep. In Northern teritory in Australia there are about 6000 feral Bantengs , probably more than in Asia.

that female mandrill looks very inaccurate. in nature, only the males have a face that colorful. this is yet another disappointing figure by schleich.   

We have also lemur from Mojo fun which fits to this map, doesn't it?

You are right ! BAD Schleich !!!!  

Anyway, I am almost sure I want them, - I love mandrills.
