As requested .. images of Goanna

This was done in air-dry clay. He warped up slightly when drying, so the tail & belly are not sitting flat on the ground as I intended.

Quite large, 19cm end to end, 6cm high. If the tail was straightened out it would be close to 30cm long!

As I remember, you haven't made models for a very long time, so it is fantastic that you only have a slight problem with the materials. The model is awesome

Wow, it could stand in the "incredible creatures" line.

Yesterday I went for a bush walk with family at Nelson's Bay in NSW when we heard a noise to our right. I was very excited when it turned out to be a Goanna with almost identical colour and markings to my model!!

The photo is not great because it had walked off a bit before I got the camera ready. Goanna's can have all sorts of markings so I consider this to be a pretty special day as it was only 2 or three metres away when we first saw it

The one we have stalking our farm is exactly like the one in your model - and huge in comparison to average sized goannas.
As we live on the edge of scrub country, we often get a great variety of goannas.
We have smaller, spotted ones, larger, brightly banded ones, and bigger monitors still.

These gigantic big ones are not the sort I'd like to mess with!
We had one once helping himself to an already dead sheep! Must have thought he'd found a pretty good meal! =P

What a story    no goannas for me when I have a walk in the country
