Schleich 2014 - Arabian Mare 13761

Hi all

Big thanks to Susanne who helped me get this infamous Arabian Mare even before New Year

And with the previous and now retired Arabian Mare. I actually think the Old Lady is a quite fine Arabian, with all of the typical chracteristics I can see when looking at photos of the breed. And fine proportions as well. Fine head and eyes.

Well.. what should I say... bad things first: The anatomy looks strange. I remember once Anna analyzed the catalog photo with a real photo of a running arabian, which exposed all her flaws completely - legs too long, neck too upright, eyes WAY too big and much more.

Good things: IMHO it seems Schleich have improved a lot in texturing, paintwork and detail. (This Arabian is a Made in Portugal version).
She has a nice matte finish, and I think overall the feel of the quality of manufacturing is really good.

Also I find this detail with the directions in fur where the leg moves is very nifty, and I think is new in Schleich horses.

She is kind of really sweet and pretty looking, but I think she is not a good replica.

Congratulations! It's a little better than in the catalog pics.. But yea, the anatomy.. horrible!

Congrats Carola. I can't say that I don't like her. I think she is a bit strange but very charming. However, the texture is very good.

A very nice presentation! I don't like that horse, but I must agree about the texture, painting and detail. Some of the new Schleich animals are very well manufactured, I only wish they had better sculpts.

Well, I must say it, after the arrival of this weird Arabian mare, Princess doesn't look that bad anymore!

I think the main problem with Princess is, that her head is way too big. Orherwise I do believe she is pretty ok.

Here is a comparison of their faces. I think Princess looks so much more alive than the Arabian.... The very flat eyes in some of the 2014 horses makes them look less alive, IMHO, because they don't catch the light as the more round(and realistic) eyes do. That is a big problem I think...

And notice the size of the eye is almost the same in these two, but Shire's head is twice the size

I agree with you! I simply just had to see her with my own eyes, and investigate what in Heaven's name happened...

They could paint her blue and put glitter on her, and we'd have a very fine addition to the Ice Elf Fantasy Animals

Hmm... I agree that as far as texturing and detail Schleich does a good job, but that effort is completely lost and in vain when they screw up the proportions and exaggerate certain features. Congrats anyways, she isn't quite as bad as I thought before.

Seing you great photoes, Carola, I begin to unbderstand what Schleich i doing !  

They can not compete with all the great, newer brands like CollectA, so they make their own kind of horses, weather we old collectors like it or not !
Perhaps they will succeed with this strategy and their enormous power of distribusion/exposure, and make the new generation convinced that a model horse looks like this ? Hearts, braids, huge eyes, strange proportions etc   

With the new stable and accessories, children can make their own "Schleich-horse world" just as with the Bayalas, which are no way near realistic

I like here better now i have seen the pictures, i think she is going to get a spot in my (big) arabian hurt, i just think the still is a schleich horse and she will always be, maybe she will get a pretty foal next year? *Fingers crossed*
