| Hello! Just found this forum, and I wondered if anyone could help identify a model that I used to have years ago (I had a TON of Britains figures from the '70s, I'll have to see where they went to). As far as I remember, a figure of a small boy, blonde hair, green shirt, white shorts, holding up a stick to throw for a white curly tailed puppy that is sitting up on its hind legs. I think they were on a base originally, seem to remember they had small peg holes. I must have got them around '74 or '75. Does anyone else remember these? Could they be Herald? Any info gratefully received! |

| Yes, this is one of the short lived Britains/Herald farm children set, only made 1970-74. There were 4 in the set, this one, a kneeling girl feeding a sitting piglet, a girl with arm outstretched to feed a horse or some other animal, and a boy with a rope (the lasso from the Swoppet cowboy set) to lead a horse. Quite rare, but not as rare as the slightly earlier, 1967-69, Floral Garden family, older man and woman sitting, two men and a woman gardening, teenage boy & girl lying around listening to a radio, and boy and girl running/playing with a dog. Edit to add: I've just seen that there are some of the boy with rope figures for sale on UK eBay. eBay item number: 231158909072 Buy it now price £4.99 + £2.95 P&P seller is 'heraldfido1955', Barney Brown. He is also selling his excellent reference books, one each on Britains/Herald farm, zoo & garden, and the book he co-wrote with Peter Cole on other early Herald figures (wild west, ECW, Trojans, dancers, polar explorers, nativity set) and Peter Cole's book on the history of Britains/Herald during the plastic era. Like the Brown/Cole book, the farm & zoo books only cover the early plastic era (all the best stuff) up to about 1970, not the more recent items. The 'fido' part of Barney's eBay name is a nod to Kay Fido, one of the early Herald designers.

| Thanks, everyone!
Dave, you've reminded me, I had the kneeling girl and piglet as well, and I'd completely forgotten! And I know I still have the other girl figure put away somewhere, but I never realised they were all from the same set. |

| The 4 figures of this set each exist in 2 different versions: they are exactly the same, but made from different "plastic": if you compare the 2 different versions you mainly can feel the difference when touching the material. |
