We had someone at work who persistently called koalas 'koala-bears', even after I'd explained, and grumbled, and explained again... til I said 'Right, I'm going to call you Sam-badger until you stop that, cos you're not a badger but you like tagging random wrong animals on the end of names, right?', and being that annoying got my point across nicely

and let's not forget the highly annoying Koala-"bear" [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I understand they call bears to koalas, they look like bear plushes. though, I can't see anything in an anteater that makes it look like a bear. Don't worry, the word fox is not easier when searching online. from Missouri fox trotters, fox terriers, flying foxes, etc. in Spanish it is even worse because the word zorro does not help either. In Spain koalas are koalas... nobody calls them koala-bear. Koalas are also not bears in my country. The fun part is that its scientific name (Phascolarctos cinereus) as bear on it. Phascolarctos is composed by two Greek words, Phascolos that means bag and arctos that means bear. On the other hand, The word koala comes from the Dharug gula, meaning no water. I know a lot when I use Google. |

What beautiful finds - the polar bear head is especially handsome. I love how they're all proper bear species, artistically but realistically rendered, not the typical cartoony teddy type thing which must be the majority of 'bear' ornaments in production.

Oh Christmas ornaments are one of my FAVORITE collections!! I was just taking pictures of mine today. What a beautiful collection as well as display, I love that. And you really found a great selection of species! I have two bear ornaments, a polar bear (expectedly) and a black bear. I think the black bear head is my favorite of yours. Wonderful!

I too realy like the polar bear head. In general all you see is polar, brown and pandas. I only have 2 bear ornaments that from their physique qualify as black bear. Just like toy figures other species are extremly under represented. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Why are you using a koala? I can see one in your 12th picture! ... wait, it is a giant anteater instead. I am kidding, of course, it is so wonderful to see your Christmas ornaments. I really hope you have a Beary Christmas and a Happy New Bear!

this is a very handsome bear indeed! - the brown bear face, 3rd one down what a joy to see all your bear ornaments coming out for some brandy and fruit cake I have some rather old small flock polar bears that I used to put on my white winter tree now they just go on the mantlepiece so they get a better view of the food!

Back from a short stay in Berlin, where I found these lovely new recruits for my amry of bears. These LUVILLE bears from the discount bin. That is one of the brands for the minature winter villages your see at Christmas. Like LEMAX, but bigger. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The 2014 Duplo blackbear and the old 1985 Playmobil polarbear I found these two a my favorite toy store in Berlin. Onkel Philip's is a real treasure. Just take a look at this place. It is cramped to the roof. Every corner is packed with stuf. New, old, secondhand, broken, repaired. You can even borrow or rent toys to see if your child likes it, and then buy it. Where on earth do you find so many different ones ??? Hard to understand for a Dane, who even lives in the middle of nowhere Well it is not like I got them all at once. This is years and years of looking and collecting. And there are some stores and brands the specialise in figures and ornaments. Some years more bears than others. Have a look at: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Any the other normal bears? I find them everywhere. Or sometimes i think these bears find me. For instance the Luville bears were on an discount shelf on the corner of the christmas section of a big department store. Who goes looking there for bears? Noone. They call to me.
