Actually they can be, there's just a few silver colored Finn horses, but their fur color changes color winter and summer..

An amazing model, just beautiful. I am no expert on horses but I would like to see an even colour coat preferably over mottled markings just so it highlights the muscles and quality of the sculpt. That's my own selfish reason!!

Harriet, I must say this model was very nice to paint! It's amazing sculpture!

I have some photos of him painted now! And because of his new colour I gave him also new name: King Creole  
(For the breed I chose cross of American Percheron and Comtois horse)

I'm guessing you used acrylics and pastels on this?  
How many layers of pastels did you use to build up the tones?  
Are the white spots on the flank done with pastel?

I'm also glad that you like the name! I'm fan of Elvis so I wanted to choose the name of one of his songs for one of horses in my collection, maybe more will follow I already think that "Moonlight Swim" would be nice name for any of the brown or black mare for example

Yes, it was painted with acrylics and pastels. I think it was between 7 and 10 layers of pastels, I'm not sure how many exactly. The dapples are done with normal brush and paint but I tried to soften their edges with some pastel powder later.

Thanks for the explanation Anna.  I would also like to use pastels more for colouring but I'm not patient enough to spray and wait between each layer.  I think the effect is very nice with subtle tones.

Amazing model and really great colouring I wish big brands did stuff like this, he looks to be the perfect draft, just he need to be bigger
