FINAL RELEASES - CollectA 2015: FOREST LIFE - Chiru Tibetan Antelope (88721)

Ok folks, this is another highlight of the 2015 wildlife collection for me.  Talk about creating the Chiru started as far back as 2011 but was then pushed back year after year.  It is one of those animals I have been trying to push for quite some time along with another antelope species (which has not made it in time for 2015 unfortunately).  Even the director of CollectA is very fond of this species of antelope.

This animal is highly endangered due to the fur trade industry and it is time that more people learned about the existence of this wonderful antelope.  Its fur is used to create Shahtoosh shawls and scarves - I was inspired by a short video clip about the fur trade in India and the detrimental effects on the Chiru.  For those interested you can watch the short documentary here:  http://www.conservationindia.org/videos/a-shawl-to-die-for-tibetan-antelope-the-shahtoosh-trade

It is very sad and I hope this animal will not become extinct.

The model was based on a museum specimen photograph - did you know it is one of the few animals I have come across for which there are so few high quality close up images?  It was a nightmare trying to find really good quality images!

Anyway the model is here in a simple pose.  The face is quite detailed although the image below may not capture this very well.  It is time we had another unusual antelope for our collections and I hope  many of you look forward to receiving this.  I know Miguel has created a model already and that is impressive and should hopefully match with the Collecta specimen    

This is the last of the wild animals released by CollectA in 2015. Unfortunately three other hoofed animals, one bird and one marsupial have all been started but did not make it into the 2015 collection due to time pressures.  Other animals due to for release in 2015 were not started at all.  I will do my best to ensure that those already started are completed and ready for 2016.

Too bad that there will only be so few wild animals for 2015, I still hope for the fallow deer female.

CollectA I love you I expected a Saiga to appear, but a chiru is also a wonderful choice. As the Saola (in 2013 or 2014? Time is flowing by so fast), this species isn´t very known at all. I don´t even know if there exisits some of them in capture?
Another critical endangered species and Collecta one again chose us, that there can be a good mixture of well known animals and rare endangered animals in their ranges.

And Numaan, you´re very evil :O I saw know this wonderful animal but with your explanations I´m imagining which hoofed animals, bird and marsupial will released next year

Your Chiru will work well with the CollectA one as a female counterpart or possibly a younger, smaller rival male.....

The confirmation of this project is already for me a big joy! We needed this wonderful animal, it was a very good suggestion from you and if it was needed, a proof that CollectA managers are very brave. This animal is a nightmare to manufacturers, these horns, these legs and the lack of quality pictures turn it in a very challenging work. If the other antelope is a saiga, I'll guess both, though I think the brand is already mature enough to make a gerenuk and believe, it is a big praise from me.

I can't wait to get my hands on one! Such an interesting species!

As for my avatar it is a computer generated running Kudu art work. It is so realistic and stunning! I found it online and use it as the background desk top PC. If anyone wants the full size image then just drop me a message and I will email it to you :-)
