Apparently it's considered a "daughter language" and is primarily based on Dutch. But I got that off the internet, so who's to really know?

Whenever I get an animal figure, I get started on thinking of the perfect name. Sometimes it only takes half a second for the perfect name to pop into my head, while sometimes it takes a few days. Either way, all my figures have special names and unique personalities.

I was just wondering what other animal-lovers thought about naming figures. I name all of my animal figurines. There are three steps that brought all of my figures to my home today: First, I browse the internet and try to find the perfect figure. Second, I purchase the figure from Amazon or at Walmart or Target. Last, but definitely not least, I come up with a special name for the figure. Then I'm all set and ready to go! How about you guys? Do you name any of your figures? Do you have any "special steps" when it comes to complete satisfaction with your animal figures? Voice your thoughts below!

Yes, I still name my animals
You know, I haven't any special steps to invent any name. I'm canidae lover, so each wolf/dog/another canidae receive his own name.
Though not, I have only one rule: I remember all countries, from which arrive my animals, and choose names of this country. America — Black, England — Karen, Germany — Jan, Heinrich (with german writing). Sometimes I break this rule: I don't like chinese names, plus my country has very good relationships with China, so I can name «China comers» by russian names. But german names is my love forever, I ADORE german names
But sometimes I can forgot any name. Not cool at all

I got a new Terra by Battat horse at Target yesterday and I don't know what to name it. I welcome both boy and girl names. The horse is gorgeous. He/she is white with black splotches like a cow. I like cool boy names and beautiful girl names.

Comming back to add a bit of a personal tidbit to it.

I do not only use naming as a way to easyer describe my models. Be honnest 'The new Schleich Tinker Mare' is too much a mouthful to use every time, so let's just say 'Phae'.
But I also do it as my way of escaping. My life makes me very tired and the world of model animals is just a great place to be. Every model starts with their name and from that name a whole story sprouts. Phae is not just The Schleich New Tinker Mare. She is a tender, sweet individual, mated to Feanor, they have two sons and live a lovely and sweet life hidden between the willows.

I also decided to name my Breyers in a different way. I'll give them show names, which will be song titles and a short version of the artist [like: MT's Dear Future Husband. MT is for Megan Trainor.] But I also give them a stable name to refer to them with.

I keep a book where i draw al my horses and give them names zo i remember. also the ones that are in stall get an name sign at the door.

For me i'm not so much interested in knowing the fabric name. they are al thought by other people. i like to give them a name and sometimes even an personality.

Gwaine i totally get what your saying same here. life is rough. but model horses are always good to me. i work from home. and every day another horse keeps me company on my desk all day long

I've been naming my model horses since I started collecting! Lol.
My latest ones are Shockwave (Breyer Picasso), Seraphina (Eberl Salome Resin), Hades and a few more... Now I am in need of names for all my Collecta! (Appart from the Friesian, he's named Hades)
Anyone willing to help me name my CollectA Percheron mare? I am looking for something Gaelic, Celtic, Fairytale....sort of name

I named mine Íorûnn, after the dwarf lady fromt eh inheritance cycle.
I think a powerfull yet feminin name suits the model.

Iriadda, why, I don't know. It came up immediately when I saw the horse in front of me :)
