Antelopes

I'm starting to present the animals of wonderful Sóstó Zoo.
I know, lot of forum members love antelopes, so they are the next one.
At the moment we have 8 antelope species.

Szitatunga:

Our Sitatunga family is big. 4-6 females, few kids and a bull. We have babies in every year. Sitatungas are kind and curious anetelopes. The newest member of the group was born in the last month.

Greater Kudu:

Two cows a bull and a bull calf in the group. The calf was born in 2014. He is our 1st Kudu calf. They are big and calm atelopes, but they afraid of lot of things.

Gemsbok:

We have a pair of gemsbok and their calf from 2013. These antelope species is not as calm and friendly as Sitatungas or Kudus.
They are bosses of the great Africa enclosure.

Eland:

We have 2 eland girls at the moment. A mother and her calf from 2013. In 2014, we have to sent our bull to an other zoo. We had a wonderful bull. Fortunately that small zoo is also in Hungary and only 50 kms from Nyíregyháza. Maybe we will get an other bull soon and he will be the husband of our beautiful girls.

Addax:

We have a nice addax group too. 4-7 members of the group(adults and calves). They are less agressive than Gemsboks but also not too friendly antelopes.

Sable Antelope:

We also have 4 sable antelopes. This is also a breeding group. Their behavior is similar to Addax antelopes'.

Lechwe:

They are similar to sitatungas(females), but a bit bigger without white spots and sripes on their body. We have also a big breeding group.

Blackbuck:

Our group contains a bull and 5 females. The five girl always have babies in the same time, so the group is usually have 11 members. They live in a big enclosure, with 3 Asian elephant ladies. This enclosure is the part of Green Pyramid which present the life of Indonesia and Asia.

Ohhh, those little calves, - well, all these animals are just wonderful Applause

I did wonder when I saw the first pictures, - those gemsboks can be a real pain in the behind, - dead dangerous actually !
I know that in some zoos they have to saw off part of their horns and make a large ball of Plastic Padding to put on the end, so they don't kill other animals...or the keepers silent

This is certainly a topic I am going to visit again and again and again and.... THANKYOU very much cheers

I've never visited Szeged zoo yet but I'm planning to visit it this summer. :)
By the way it is difficult to travel there without car in Hungary.
I usually visit zoos which have gorillas but I would like to see the white lions and fossa of Szeged.

Two days ago, another african elephant was born at Sösto Zoo, but it is made by artifical insimination, so not really a"Breeding Success"-all animals are able to reproduce by themselfs, they don't need human hands to"assist", but zoos make a lot of money with elephant calfs, but is is really hard and stressful prodecure for the elephant cow....and it is extreme expensive-money better used for conservation projects in the wild....its the wrong way zoos going..
