PostSubject: My Starlux Collection Part 1   My Starlux Collection Part 1 EmptyThu Apr 01, 2010 2:58 am

Here i want to show you my Starlux collection.
I will do this in parts of 10 pictures, so that the page won't open up so slow i hope.
I am not complete by far, but that is just a matter of time.
The collection includes wild animals, spanish figthing bulls and torero's, farm-animals, and pre-historic people and animals.
Most of them are in the 1:32 scale, some about 1:24/25

Awsome collection, the only Starlux I have is the maned wolf, there were several on ebay in the last couple of months, but the prices were too much for me to spend on animals that I didn't want for the dioramas, some sold for more then $1000, the bulk were not that expensive but even the wolf I bought was $76. High, but I wanted it.

PostSubject: Re: My Starlux Collection Part 1   My Starlux Collection Part 1 EmptyThu Apr 01, 2010 6:40 am

First i have to say sorry to Torben, because i discovered too late, that he made a special place for collections.

The obvious place to hunt for Starlux is ebay.fr of course.
Problem can be, that most French sellers don't speak English very well, or completely not.
But i always manage to make the deals there, and i found a good seller for Starlux anyway.
I think, i have a very big order standing out with him, for the time i have some money again.
That is about 61 pieces, for 320 euro, which is 5,2 euro a piece, and that is cheap already.
But when you are lucky in the biddings, you can have items for just 1 euro sometimes, or in that range of money.
I never saw an item more expensive then 15 euro maybe on Starlux.
Probably there are some more rare and expensive items, but you can ask Christophe too, those prices you saw, they are really out of this world, anf far over the top.
I think, Dean had the same experience as you too some while ago.
But ok, i understand as a collector, if you want something badly... Wink

Maybe in some cases they are a little bit "off" , but they are not much worser then Britains, and they have a very extended range in models and species, and that is why i love them very much.

Yes they are like Britains. I discovered too late about my Papo Dinos too, I should have put them in the special place for collections Rolling Eyes

Yes, those French makers make beautifull stuff!
What Papo is today, Starlux was for the 1950s-1970s, and Blancherie Freres for the 1930s-1940s.

$76 for a maned wolf is 10 times too much, but ok this kind of things happened in a collector life.
Willy is right, one can find Starlux at fair prices on eBay.fr.
Some are very rare and expensive like some of the WWF series.
The holy graal is the sable antilope which can reach €250 here.
I know you are searching models for your dios.
Starlux is supposed to be 1/32 but, like Schleich, it's not true.
Some models like pangolin, guereza, langur, Jentinks duikker and more could perfectly stand for you.
Of course, finding them at a good price need some patience... Laughing Laughing

Great figures in pristine condition, Willy. Hello, Christophe, great to see you here. For the record, I've reversed my former opinion of Starlux figures. Very nice line; in fact, I've been pricing them on eBay.fr for a few months now. Many of the figures are quite affordable, excepting the super-rare ones, such as those you referenced above.

I really like the boxed set of French football heroes of the previous generation. I want them all, from Barthez to Zidane. They are really beautifully designed and rendered. Shouldn't everyone have a Djorkaeff in their collection...?!

I'd go bonkers if Schleich ever obtained licensing rights to similarly manufacture German footballer figurines.

PostSubject: Re: My Starlux Collection Part 1   My Starlux Collection Part 1 EmptySun Apr 04, 2010 1:05 pm

Thank you Phil!
Like i said before, those Starlux figurines have a special place for me.
I am often wondered, why i never saw them before in my youth in the 1960s or 1970s... question

I can't remember seeing them ever before in the Netherlands in those times.
As a matter of fact, i discovered them first in the beginning of the 2000s, when i was roaming the internet for animal figurines.

Like i said before, they might be a little bit off in some cases, but you can always recognize the species, and how many species they made...

Next to that, they had very extended lines on other figurines indeed, like the French football-players from the 1980s, i saw them too, and i was even in doubt to collect them too, but i could resist.
But i like that they made them.
Why should i buy them, when my animal- lines are far from complete on this day, even when i have 61 models reserved?
But i think that German players would be the last for me to collect anyway, as a Dutchman(1974!), haha, then i would like to our Dutch heroes first of course...

Well, Willy, the short answer is that you should collect them only if you want to! I completely understand about the lack of appeal of German footballer models to most everyone one but German citizens. There are many iterations of the now-famous quotation by former English star striker Gary Lineker, but it goes something like this:
""Soccer is a game for 22 people that run around, play the ball... and in the end, Germany always wins!" Being part-Dutch and part-German, I'd love to see sets of figurines of footballers of both countries. Here's a question for you - would you want a set of figurines of great Brazilian stars? Wink

Haha, yes we Dutch know this line from Lineker very well, as we always say the Germans always wins in the last minutes of the game.
But we Dutch must admitt, that this is a case of mentality in most cases, and not bad luck.
They fight to the bitter end, and this is how it should be actually.
With the shirt of their country around their shoulders, the are proud to wear it, and that shows.
I wish the Dutch football-team, with all of their technical and tactical skills and high quality of football, would have at least 10 or 20% of this mentality that the Germans or English/Scottish/Welsh/Irish show, then they would have won several championships....
But that is another story.

I guess, when i would really start to collect models of footballplayers, then i would like them all, and the Brasilians of course!

By the way, i am Dutch, but i have 1/8 part of German blood in me too.
But as we Dutch and Germans came from the same ancestors, the difference is not very much, besides from mentality i guess... afro

Yes, the "mentality" issue has been much-discussed, especially with regards to the Oranjemen, but I will make the prediction here (no offense to our German friends) that the Dutch team will progress further in WC 2010 than the German team. That being said, I've long admired Klose, Schweinsteiger, Mertesacker, and more recently, Ozil, who could become the biggest star of them all. I also think Hitzelsperger is a great weapon from 20-25 yards out.

I also got a big kick out of the opening sequence from Lola Rennt ("Run, Lola Run), the wonderful film by Tom Tykwer in which Sepp Herberger's famous quotes are strung together:

"Nach dem Spiel ist vor dem Spiel. Der Ball ist rund. Das Spiel dauert neunzig Minuten."
(loose translation, as far as I can tell: "After the game is before the game. The ball is round. The game lasts ninety minutes." Whereupon, the football is tossed high in the air. Brilliant stuff, IMHO.

Haha, we had a trianer for the Dutch team from Austria before, it was Ernst Happel, and he had wonderfull one-liners too.
He was trainer in the time of 1978 i think.
When players started to complain, or journalists having issues, he just said in a German-dutch mix of words:
"Kein geloel, gewoon fussballen", which ment: Don't talk shit, just play football!

I guess, the Dutch team will come far too this time, but Germany still managed to get third the last time, with a team that was playing more worse, then the team today...
I already looked through the playing scheduale, and if we survive the first round, all the next games will be heavy games, with countries like Argentina on our way...
And that with Messi in this form!
