| Once I almost have made replicas of every 15 genus from the Felidae Family, I am going to start to make the rest of the tribe beginning with one specimen of the King: his majestic , THE LION My initial plan for the entire collection is to include 5 different replicas of Lions: one Southeast African lion (Panthera Leo krugeri), a lioness of the same subspecie, and another male in his white path. I also want to make an specimen of Barbary lion (Panthera Leo Leo) in an standing posture (to show his big extended mane) and another one of their Asiatic brother (Panthera lion persica). Additionally I was also considering to make a West African lion (Panthera Leo senegalensis) which is characterized by his reduced mane, although I am not quite convinced already. For sure I want one of them to be laying and another with a roaring gesture. Although making all these replicas has to be alternated with the rest of the cats still left, I am considering to start with a Lying Southeast African lion like in the picture. What do you think? | Oh lions! I love lions although they are the most common toy replicas. We don't see they often in homemade projects, maybe because they are very hard to get correctly. We are also always very exigent with that particular animal once we know it very well. I find your choices very good, mainly the South African lion, Barbary and Asiatic. The first is the common big African lion we know. The best to choose the lying pose for sure. The Barbary is the most impressive because of the mane so it has to be standing. The Asiatic shall work perfectly with a more dynamic pose as long as we can see their typical belly folds. Very excited to see your kings of the jungles! |

| Very exiting I love the lying pose also, and it will be great together with the tanding and sitting models you already have...and male lions DO tend to lie dow a lot |

| That's right. Once mixed, you will have approximately 3 hours to work although you can expedite the process to s few minutes heating the model. I use to work layer by layer, heating the model between them using a heating lamp. |

| Thanks for extra pictures, I am glad you're still working, it is not easy to prevent that a lion look somewhat cartoonish and I am sure you'll manage it. Could you please resize the uploaded pictures to 1024 pixels or less? They're too big although it is not noticiable and page gets slow. Let me know if you need my help. |

Oh yes!. This is something that use to happen whith unpainted figures that are going to be painted with dark and clear areas...there are some tricks you can use to prevent this effect if the final figure is going to be unpainted (monocolor) like using coarsed areas to show them as if they were darker...(hollowed pupils are the best example). Although this is not the case and once painted I hope I will be able to preset the lion with his natural majestic temper... - Roger wrote:

Thanks for resizing your pictures and also for great tip about unpainted figures. Fine! I was not sure I was understable (my poor english...). What I meant is that is difficult to imagine the final result of an unpainted figure because following paint can/should modify/rectify volumes and appearance. However, your point, as every one yo gave me, was really centered and useful. In fact I use to have problems with big cat faces, because -with so big muzzles- they easily tend to appear comical or silly instead of fierce and savage . So, as you said, is better to be aware... Once again I really appreciate this kind of comments and I hope yo continue to do so... So, taking this in mind, I have been working in the face of my lion and this is the current status [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |
