| > This is the new CollectA Prehistoric Life 1:40 Feathered Tyrannosaurus rex[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]^ this picture is © by UrzeitshopIt's a beautifully sculpted model but unfortunately has too many flaws for my tastes, most of all the horrible colours. So I asked Martin Garratt to do this wonderful new figure justice and he made all these flaws disappear in a marvelous way . [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| Lucky you This is the way I love dinosaurs, far from Jurassic park or zumba fashion It changes completely the model. It reminds me the way Kosta painted the Mojo cheetah: Before the repainting I disliked the models and suddeenly they became very very very tempting. It is the same here, the touch of a great artist. Thank you very much for sharing By the way, I think the good section for this one is the Custom one. Would you mind if I move it? |

Scientifically, it seems this T-rex is more up to date than the REBOR. The museum class is more related with the way REBOR is presented although their figures look more like action figures. Though, it also shows that the original painting is quite uninteresting. It was great to see a comparison topic among all big t-rexes on market, I don't know if someone on forum have enough to do it.
That's my feeling about Rebor, it is like they seem at a loss whether making Top JP actions figures and "Museum class" models. Actually, they are making expensive chameleons
Chameleons, expensive, but nice
This painting Trex reminds me the way Kosta enhanced Mojo and WW cheetahs to the Museum class level.
I agree it would be great to have a "Big" Trex comparison topic, althought it would be easier on DTF. But who knows? Maybe Postsaurischian could do it? We are not dino oriented but T-rexes are very popular so a comparison between some of them could easily take place at STS. Even I have a little T-rex in my collection. I think I understand the chameleon thing and I agree with the way this painting improved this figure. However, I love absolutly REBOR design, it is far more exciting and less caricatural than the most part of other action figures. I was just checking some pictures of the ceratosaurus that Susanne entered on TAI and I confess the figure look quite exciting to me. I'll probably never own a REBOR but from distance they look great, mainly because with that way we don't have to pay the amount of money needed to acquire them. |

| Of course everything could easily take place at STS, I only ment it would be easier on DTF because, for example, I have a few T-rexes but not enough to make the job. But let's talk again about the CollectA Trex, it is also a chameleon since it seems CollectA produced a Museum class Trex and painted it as an Action figure. It is so obvious with this new coat

| This looks really great! Your paintwork is much more realistic! (Not that I would know, really, but it gives that impression.) Is this CollectA T-Rex the only one that's been made with feathers? |

I like doing such things, but also am not the right man because I don't own any Schleich or Bullyland tyrannosaurs. Also not the latest Carnegie (which I think is too small for that comparison anyway). Sorry. - bjarki12 wrote:

I better say again that this is not my work, only my comission. It was made by the great Martin Garratt. Not only did he give that model those wonderful colours, he also filled all the gaps CollectA's end product has - and the mouth is also not moveable anymore (I'm not a fan of this trend). - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To join the discussion I must say that to me this is the best mid-sized Tyrannosaurus ever made since the Battat figure in 1994 . I wonder why it took so long. It's the most popular Dinosaur in the world! I've been waiting for a good Tyrannosaurus in this size (it's about 1:35) for many many years. I have many Dinosaur collections and I needed it for my favourite one, the bedroom collection: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The Carnegies I didn't like too much and they were too small. The Battat is also too small. The REBOR (a very nice model for itself) is a bit too big and also not a really good tyrannosaur. The Papo has always been a compromise because of its right size. When I saw the potential of this new CollectA figure in the first pictures at the DTF I hesitated no longer, got me one and sent it right away to Martin who did what he did and now the Papo rex is (very) happily replaced by this amazing new acquisition . (Have to take new pics of the bedroom collection soon.) |

Thanks! He, he .. it's a cupboard. For that view you have to be 187 cm tall . - Kikimalou wrote:
....... now I know what you can show us A 1:35 dinos collection. It could be a great topic Sounds interesting, but would take some time. (I'm fearing the size discussion . I come from the DTF, you know. I know what can happen .). By the way - not all figures from this collection are in 1:35. Some are 1:40. Sometimes it's okay, could be a smaller individual of a species. The size of many Dinosaurs is speculation because in many many cases we only have partial skeletons, so it's still a matter of personal experience and different individual points of view what lenght (for example) you give a certain species. In general I believe in what I have seen personally and in Gregory Paul's Field Guide to Dinosaurs. Exceptions confirm the rule. |

| Sorry for not quoting but I also think a topic about which dino figures could work in 1:35 scale is a good idea. I keep still thinking that topics comparing T-rexes is a good idea and again, just because it is a very popular dinosaur. Many people doesn't collect exactly prehistoric figures but there is always some room for a T-rex in our collections. Instead of a huge comparison, some little confrontations... Papo versus REBOR, CollectA versus Battat or some topics like that. I know it is not easy to make this kind of topics and I am not actually an usual contributor in this matter. Just an idea and a little wish. |

| Postsaurischian, that is an attractive and finely painted piece. While the original caught my attention I also found the bright "mane" distracting. It looks much more comfortable in its new cryptic coat. The dark feet and base are nice, too; the toe claws looked a little strange but that isn't noticeable in this repaint. It is perfect for that display.
I always enjoy seeing your photos and your work as "dino model curator". I agree about having some flexibility in scale. A 40-foot individual was at some point in its life 39 ft, 34 ft, etc. Also the partial remains of giant sauropods, for example, remind us that the relatively more complete specimens may not be a complete picture for a species. _________________ - Andy
