The Jutland Horse Empty
PostSubject: The Jutland Horse   The Jutland Horse EmptyWed Feb 09, 2011 6:43 am

Den jydske hest, - or the Jutland in English - is one of the eldest Danish breeds.
It is a horse made to pull the plough, extremely powerful and strong.
It used to be the working horse for the large farms. Small farmers could not afford to feed a it, but the large farms often had ten pairs or more, with a fármhand looking after each pair.

It is a beautyful, gentle giant. So when I saw that Bullyland had made one, I must buy it !
Well, it is a nice figure, but it is not a jutland. It is a chestnut shire, like you can see Laughing
The old shire behind.

The jutland has short legs and a short, strong neck. An extremely wide girth, large head and a slanding croup (see the upper line above the tail).

Not at all like a shire, - but never mind...

Made for pulling heavy loads day after day, it is still agile Very Happy

When heavy horses became unemployed this horse almost became extinct. But a few entusiasts saved it.

Two more models that I have not seen. They are both very beautiful :)

Perhaps the Bullyland Brabrant would be a better example of the breed minus the feather.

I was looking in my catalogues to find the Brabrant, but found these instead. There is no date in the catalogue, but I suppose it is from late 90s

Now that's just annoying... They had a perfectly good line of old chunky draft horses that are a far better match, why couldn't they have updated this guy with a better paintjob, some new hair, that sort of thing?
(Okay, I'm being facetious - I know why they couldn't keep those old molds, they're simply too small compared with their current horses. Still a shame, though.)

The middle one of Torben's picture is the one that I meant. For some reason, I forgot that she had feather. She is a very gorgeous model, mine always looks like it is smiling at me.
