| Here I present one of the 4 new Soft Models from Favorite (Kinto) in the Ancient Fishes line. Latimeria chalumnae, the West Indian Coelacanth, one of two species of deep-water lobe-fin from the Indian Ocean (the western part). The only marine fish in the Ancient Fishes series (and other than a few sturgeon, one of the few marine 'primitive' fishes alive now as it is, depending on how you define them). I referred to Arapaima as popular in Japan as figures, but it's nothing compared to coelacanths (mainly West Indian). I have so many, I've almost given up on trying to get them all (Favorite even makes one other--a much large soft Vinyl one that I won't get because it's just ridiculous in size). Unlike the other species in the series, they are certainly not aquarium fish. Or food fish. But they still suffer greatly due to the effects of fishermen (surviving 100s of millions of years as a group, but never found a way to survie dynamite fishing. Go figure). At the same time, though, their history and strange appearance has made them well-known as natural history curioisties, so that's good! The figure itself is about 20cm long, giving a scale of roughly 1:12. Like the rest of the Ancient Fishes, and other FAVORITE Soft Models, the figure is heavy, and came packaged on a card. There is a base, and the figure has a large hole where the base fits. They are not interchangable between figures. The models can sit/display without them, but the hole is fairly big and, really, it looks better with the stand. Pictures: And, for scale, Kevin the diver. Dressed like he is, he woudl be dead long before he got deep enough to swim with a coelacanth...probably died of hypothermia I keep saying it--make sure to get this set! Even another coelacanth! _________________ I used to have an online store, but now it's a Blog exploring the variety in my collection! | Great looking coelacanth and nice presentation again! You have so many and I don't have a single one. If I ever collect these figures, much probably I'll go for Colorata or for smaller and cheaper tube like figures. Though, this large citizen is a very detailed and nice looking one. |

Well, when you need other things from me, I might have an extra Kaiyodo Deep-Sea Coelacanth, and I might be able to part with it... I don't know if I have a bottlecap for it (or at least the correct one) but if you need a small coelacanth, that's probably one of the best! It's the one in the upper left. _________________ I used to have an online store, but now it's a Blog exploring the variety in my collection! It was not a complaint from me but that is a very kind offer from you. Figure is very beautiful but is it with assemblable parts like most Kaiyodo? With the exception of foxes, I use to gain a strange uninterest for assemblable figures, I have a few Kaiyodo and they are poorly negleted somewhwere. I maturated my collecting tastes all these years and strangely, being a species collector and that loves figures made with precision, I was never into Kaiyodo, these stranges things hard to explain. I love them in pictures but I dislike them when handling. I don't want to sound thankless once I really appreciate your offer. |

I don't think it is in parts actually (other than the separate base); it is from the Deep-Sea Odyssey set, which were produced different than the animaltales. I will find out and let you know! _________________ I used to have an online store, but now it's a Blog exploring the variety in my collection! | 20cm long, it means it is bigger than the Safari Ltd one Congratulation! You have an incredible Coelacanth collection, a comparison topic would be very interesting. |

You have an incredible Coelacanth collection, a comparison topic would be very interesting. There is one! Somewhere is an ancient fishes thread! Other than some later additions, they are all there! _________________ I used to have an online store, but now it's a Blog exploring the variety in my collection! I just checked the figure, and the bottle cap one is, indeed, a single piece. It is also a hard PVC type material, as opposed to the more brittle plastic that was used, in the same era, for the Animaltales. _________________ I used to have an online store, but now it's a Blog exploring the variety in my collection! | Wow, what a stunning figure! I had no idea coelacanths were so common as figures in Japan! I thougtht it was the opposite: a species so obscure there is little to no chance of seeing a figure of it. Impressive! But indeed, the poor diver isn´t really prepared to observe this fish! _________________ "Dovahkiin, Dovahkiin naal ok zin los vahriin wah dein vokul mahfaeraak ahst vaal! There are actually a surprising number of them! Almost all of them are Japanese, other than 2 Safari figures (the Dinos model and the Cryptozoology toob one), As I said, I've pretty much given up trying to get all of the coelacanths (sort of like Asian Arowanas and Arapaima; there are a lot of those, and they are all from Japanese companies). But I would like to hunt down the Latimeria meridionalis from the Takara deep-sea set. Don't have many of that species. _________________ I used to have an online store, but now it's a Blog exploring the variety in my collection! It is also a hard PVC type material, as opposed to the more brittle plastic that was used, in the same era, for the Animaltales. That's fabulous! A Kaiyodo quality figure in a single piece! I have never experienced before A solide kaiyodo and I am sure I'll adore it. Something that makes me completely puzzled is that why the company has so many fabulous sculpts that need to be asembled, it really put me in pieces. Eikoh are not half as good as Kaiyodo but I like them much better. That's again very kind from you that you checked that it is a real gashapon and not a crackapon. If you have a spare of it, I'd surely want to have that beautiful solide coelacanth in my collection. |
