NEW COLLECTA 2017: WILDLIFE - Saiga Antelope (88808)

Hi everyone

I have pleasure in announcing a first timer to the modern brands scene...a Saiga!

This model was included by CollectA to my own surprise....given that it is (to be frank) the ugliest of all antelopes I never expected a brand to make it but CollectA were happy to push the boundaries further and venture into an area of creating something even more obscure and unusual...something that no doubt many childrens and adults in the general population would really be surprised to see......how many every day people excluding wildlife enthusiasts have ever seen or even heard of a Saiga?

So when it came to sculpting there was the choice between the Mongolian Saiga or the Russian Saiga.  Even more complex were the fact that each species has a winter and summer coat so which of the four potential options to choose??  I very much liked the whiter full winter Russian coat but in the end the summer coat was chosen.

It was really important to get the exact shape and curvature of the horns right and I saw many photos during the sculpting stage.  The picture here is that of the prototype sculpt so I hope that during production the subtle curve and shape of the horns translates well into plastic.....fingers crossed!

Nothing is ever perfect in life and no doubt some critiscism of the sculpting will follow but I hope you all agree with the species choice and welcome this unusual creature in your collections!  The potential problem now is, will a toy retailer place an order for Saiga models when they are selecting from the CollectA catalogue? That is the question and fellow collectors may need to specifically ask for it from their CollectA stockists!

There's never enough
But I'm really exhitec to see what they are, I'm still hoping for my biggest wish, the Sumatran Rhino.

I also wanted to say thank you for the great work you've done in the last few years, I have species in my collection that I may would have never noticed in real life. Hope to see more in the next years!

But in my opinion this model IS perfect! And even being a collector that collects in scale, and not thinking that this one will be much bigger than 4cm at the shoulder, I'll get him when he looks like in the picture.

So was my intuition right yesterday. I had that feeling since last year because we talk about a Saiga a very long time and we have Numaan :)
And i know CollectA looks also to us :)

Fantastic! I'm happy to see the model of Saiga Antelope!

Numaan is correct, it is more than venturous when a company decides to release an obscure creature like this that has no commercial appeal and surely will hardly sell enough to justify the investment. It is clearly a collector iten, not a random toy, it is our turn of showing how important is that companies like CollectA take in consideration market niches as we represent. Showing our interest with dealer, sellers, etc., is only a little help from our part. Other good contribution is that we keep a strong and influent community at STS, Numaan has surely all merits from such a long colaboration with the company that brings to light such unusual creatures, but that all started through our community and according with our members wishes. How stronger is STS, stronger will be Numaan and I hope this advent of unusual model figures continues. Investing our time in this forum, is a good investment to our collections and this hobby. Thanks Numaan and CollectA for introducing a saiga antelope in this hobby, a moment of big joy!

I hope and think that the Saiga will be the bestseller of all bestsellers ever

Wonderful! A dream come true! I´m sure every member on STS will buy one, cause in the last years since I´m a member, a saiga was always on the top in whislists. So thankful, that collectA made this figurines<3

I don't know if this Saiga will sale a lot, I hope it won't be a miss for the company. Nevertheless I think CollectA is building its own legend with so many incredible models.

I remember CollectA's place on the podium when this forum was founded and this brand is no more an outsider in many collector's heart.
