| At a first glance this model looks like a lump of rough, grey plastic, but looking closer, it is WONDERFUL From Wikipedia : "The North American porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum), also known as the Canadian porcupine or common porcupine, is a large rodent in the New World porcupine family. The beaver is the only rodent in North America that is larger than the North American porcupine. " So here he is compared to Safari's beaver [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The beaver looks smaller, but he does not have all those spikes [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And compared to European P.s from Lineol, Schleich, and Danolin : [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here we go, - look at AAAALL that detail !!!! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Look at those cute, little feet [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Am I cute ? Or am I cute ? | More than cute, it is irresistible I was sure of that, I was sure Safari Ltd made a hit with this "first time ever" species. Even the painting is ok. Thank you for the nice pics Susanne |

| I already liked it on promotional pictures but now I like it even more and much more. I ahve to tell again that making a American porcupine in toy shape must be surely a very challenging task. That's likely one of the reasons why this species was never released before. Safari did it, with a very pleasant result and one thing I am sure, nobody did it better. |

| I am also very happy with this American Porcupine, and it is even better when you can hold it in your hands than in pictures! I did not understand all the criticism it went through when Safari showed it in pictures, because I thought it was really well rendered. It is really difficult to portray all those fine thin quills, but I think the sculptor was able to cope with them, and in a realistic way. And hell yes, it is a never made species, and one that I thought would never been done by any major brand! Here it is, an outstanding triumph!
Thanks for the walk-around, Susanne! Great and really helpful, as usual!!! |

I agree 100%! I always thought positively of this figure, even when the first pic was revealed. This walkaround confirms my thoughts! |

| Lovely comparison with its cousins. The colors here look nicer (more brownish with less contrast) than the promo pics. I also think it is competently done and I also didn't expect one from a toy company. There is no perfect way to mass-produce its fur, but importantly the feet and head are correct and give it the right character- the real thing looks like it ambled out of a fairy tale.
Safari tends to make some of these smaller animals relatively larger than other brands, which I have mixed feelings about but I'm sure others enjoy it. I would love to see a toob version of this model that could fit in among the larger forest animals. _________________ - Andy

Some examples are the opossum, grey squirrel and American badger. Though, their size do not removes me from acquiring them and I have the three mentioned in my collection. |

Ah, this reminds me how subjective this can be. For me, the size of the American badger is perfect to fit with my prairie dog town assemblage. And I suppose if someone is really concerned about scale then the squirrel could go with certain small rodents and birds. So it all depends on context. I still like the porcupine and I still think it and others mentioned here would translate wonderfully into toobs, as was done with the raccoon and beaver. _________________ - Andy
