PostSubject: Balaenoptera's collection   Balaenoptera's collection EmptyWed May 30, 2018 5:11 pm

Hi everyone,
I decided to take some pictures of my growing cetacean collection, so here it is! Warning: Image heavy!

I mainly collect toy figures of cetaceans, so there won't be a lot of small figurines like Kaiyodo. I do of course like them, but I just prefer the larger figures Wink
I also collect other marine life like deep sea fish and syngnathids, pictures of those will be posted in the future. But for now, here are my cetaceans!

I forgot to include the new Safari ltd toob figures... pictures of those will follow!

By the way, you can put the Minke, Sei and Finback Whale to the Blue Whales, because they also belong to the genus of Balaenoptera. The next relatives of the Pilot Whales are Orcas, which are belonging to the great family of oceanic Dolphins. The Finless Porpoise is a ... well a Porpoise and they are a several family within the Odontoceti, like the Bottlenose Whale which belongs to the Beaked Whales:)

Thank you! Yes I know :) I was going for a species group photo (except the right whales, which are different species but they look quite similar so I put them in one photo. And the dolphins because there are so many species of which I only have one or two figures). I have them displayed in taxonomic order in my glass cabinet.

Yes, it is really difficult to distinguish between the Right Whale species, when they were put together.

Collection update August 2018

First, a couple of 2018 released cetaceans:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Safari ltd Vaquita, CollectA blue whale and gray whale, and Papo Sperm whale and Blue whale. It's hard to see in the picture but the Papo blue whale is huge. Of course not as big as the Kaiyodo sofubi one, but if you want a big blue whale figure that's much cheaper than the kaiyodo blue whale I'd really recommend the Papo one.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Close-up of the two papo whales. Both with articulated jaws.

And, I was able to get the Kitan Club seahorse set, thanks to Brett!

You have a wonderful collection.
The Papo blue whale looks very impressive.
It looks like it's almost twice as big as the one from CollectA. Is that true?

Here are some more pictures of the Papo blue whale
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And here it is with the Schleich blue whale, (same size as the new CollectA one)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Also, I received a new figure this week. The only False killer whale figure I have, the Okinawa aquarium 'bottlecap' figure. It's very small but hey, it's a false killer whale!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
It's very detailed for it's size. Not really fond of the base though, because it's with a trainer and I'm against cetacean captivity. Luckily it can be removed from its base Smile

Wow, it´s been a while since I have been active on this forum. The past few years I have been more focused on other hobbies, but recently got back into collecting cetacean figures. Starting with catching up on some newer releases:

Safari ltd Atlantic white-sided dolphin, minke whale and sperm whale, CollectA sperm whale, Papo right whale and common dolphin

My same thought Kiki, a nice figure indeed but much smaller than I thought!

Welcome back Balaenoptera!
