CollectA 2019: WILDLIFE -Indian Crested Porcupine (88859)

I've just got this good news from Collecta:

"My personal star for this week is the Indian Crested Porcupine. It is a large rodent, covered in multiple layers of modified hair called quills, with longer, thinner quills covering a layer of shorter, thicker ones. Take a close look at the wonderful way of how this has been interpreted in the CollectA model. With the real animal the quills are made of keratin and are relatively flexible. The base of the tail contains shorter quills with longer, hollow quills that the porcupine can rattle to produce a warning sound when threatened. Contrary to popular belief, Indian crested porcupines (like all porcupines) cannot shoot their quills."

I found out that this one is another species than the one from Schleich. So, I will get this Porcupine, too.

An unusual species at last! Not as unusual as the Safari Ltd American porcupine but a very interesting choice anyway. I also like that CollectA calls it with the species names instead of just porcupine, that is what I expect from this brand. The figure looks very good considering how hard is to sculpt an animals like this one. No tail up this time.

Nice to see that there's at least one new species! And I think it's a good representation of that kind of animal, but as far as I know, the Indian porcupine(Hystrix indica) hasn't an white crest, but the Common (Hystrix cristata) does. Now I still would like to know how big this one will be.

Yes, the Indian one has it also. They are close related to each other. But they life on different continents. Sometimes the crest is lacking in the Common species.

I can't wait to see the guy (or the lady) himself,, tis kind of model needs really a 3D view to appreciate.

Great porcupine, and as Megaptera said, a different species from the already existing one by Schleich (which is a Cape Porcupine). With Safari's last year's American Porcupine, we have 3 different species of these rodents!!!! Never would have believed it only a few years ago!!!

It would be great to have other big rodenrs aswell, such as a Paca, some Agouties, a Pacarana, a Plains Viscacha, a Mountain Viscacha, a Mara, a Springhare, a Cane Rat... There are so many!!!!! But in the meantime we'll enjoy this beautiful quilled-creature!!

This looks really good so will be on my wishlist!!!

I understand the difficulty (if not impossiblity) of sculpting spines.
But looking at pictures of the Indian Crested Porcupine, I would've liked the spines to sculpted to look more hairy, instead of chunky bits.
Still, a very nice figure.

Nice species selection but weird figure as result... I see the old-world porcupine is too difficult for both Schleich and CollectA, I personally still prefer the simplified Chap Mei one :)

Absolutely !! The chap mei figure is simple but best represents this species, the face sculpt by collectA is really good ..but rest 75 % of the body is a mess ..

To see better pictures or in real life. For the moment I find it bizarre! it looks like a manga with the spikes coated with gel ...
