| More birdies, orders Piciformes and Trogoniformes. Order Piciformes, families Picidae (woodpeckers) and Ramphastidae (toucans) 1. ivory-billed woodpecker, Campephilus principalis (CollectA) 2. great-spotted woodpecker, Dendrocopus major (Kaiyodo) 3. Okinawa woodpecker, Dendrocopus noguchii (Colorata) This figure should have a base, but I was able to get it free from one of my dealers without the base. I figure it is worth sacrificing the base (for now) for a free figure, especially since Colorata figures can be hard to get individually and are often expensive. 4. black woodpecker, Dryocopus martius (Kaiyodo) 5. rainbow-billed toucan, Ramphastos sulfuratus (Safari Ltd.) 6. toco toucan, Ramphastos toco (Schleich) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Order Trogoniformes (trogons, quetzels, etc.) Just one, the resplendent quetzel, Pharomachrus mocinno by Safari Ltd from the Exotic Birds TOOB [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

The Papo black and red frog isn't a strawberry poison dart frog, Oophaga pumilio, it is a Silverstone's poison frog Ameerega silverstonei Thanks [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I thought the color was odd for O. pumilio. For what it is worth, is that a 'community-based' ID or did Papo intend to sell it as that species? Papo called it an "Equatorial red frog" and the yellow one an "Equatorial yellow frog". No strawberry or Silverstone... Nevertheless, the painting is odd for a Strawberry and matches the Silverstone's poison frog perfectly N.B. The two other poison frogs are called "Blue" and "Green" - bmathison1972 wrote:

I'm so happy (for my collection ) you decided to start this collection AFTER we bought the Colorata box. |

| I don't think I commented yet, that it's great to see your growing non-arthropod collection. The group photos are interesting and useful.
Regarding the kookaburra, I was also a bit surprised by the size when first seeing it in person. However, it is such a large kingfisher that this size displays better in scale with the other species, except the crested kingfisher. So I think it's perfect for a synoptic collection where it is grouped with relatives.
I just got the Schleich rooster yesterday. It's a very appealing model.
The PNSO gazelle looks larger than I assumed. That PNSO African series is quite intriguing. _________________ - Andy

I'm happy again to discover the mocking bird is not so big... On my wishlist now!

| Updates and Replacements: 1. gemsbok, Oryx gazella (Schleich) I had originally had the Papo gemsbok, but not because it was my figure of choice, but rather because I got it cheap in a used set of bovids on eBay. When forum members alerted me to the better quality of the Schleich figure, I thought I'd replace it when I did my next order from one of the online shops I frequent. 2. alpaca, Vicugna pacos (Papo) This 2019 figure was not available when I covered camelids earlier in the year. I specifically wanted to wait for this one to be released before I bought an alpaca (I much prefer this form to the one that was available by Safari Ltd.) 3. Sunda colugo, Galeopterus variegatus (Arboreum Artwork) 4. Bali mynah, Leucopsar rothschildi (Arboreum Artwork) I was planning on buying both of these Arboreum figures sometime in 2020, but when the artist offered 40-60% off some of his figures recently, I thought I would take advantage of the discount and get them now. | these Arboreum figurines are great! About oryx, I prefer the Papo one in spite of its too big size but I have the both.. About alpaca, this one seems to be good and not too big.. |
