| To be released later this month. It's realistic, but it's going to be HUGE: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Damn that's big. If it had wheels, a small child could use that thing as a toddler ride-on. |

| An image of Wild Rush 4, the Asian set, finally appeared on-line.
I predicted 3.5 of the species but won't say more until the photo, which I requested via my mailing list that someone post, appears here.
Release is presumably in the fall and I am taking orders now.
Thanks. Brett |

| Wild Rush 4 (presumably a 2019 release): Komodo dragon, otter (species?), orangutan, tiger, Asian elephant: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

Thanks. Brett Curious what your predictions were, Brett. I would have guessed the elephant and tiger, but also a panda and maybe a deer or sorts. I never would have guessed an otter. |

| Thanks, Blaine.
I don't think anyone would have guessed otter--especially since there are otters on other continents but also because there are more iconic Asian species like giant pandas (as you note) or even reds if they wanted to go small, sun bears, snow leopards, yaks, etc.
And I wavered between Komodo dragon and gharial. WR already did the caiman so I knew the latter was unlikely, but I'd have loved to have seen it.
Australia and presumably North America (I say presumably because the arctic set overlapped so much but I'd say it's an extremely safe bet.) for next year. Wish this was happening faster... |

| Also, the more I think about it, the more I think the otter is the common Eurasian river otter. Which is fine by me; I haven't focused on this group yet so I'll hold out for the Wild Rush figure. I assume this is the common river otter only because the Wild Rush Figures, while very nice and different from past Kaiyodo releases, really are not very adventurous with regards to the species in the local faunas they cover. |

| No, not adventurous, but in this case I'm very happy about it, since it's the first time we're seeing a selection of really majorly iconic world species.

Exactly, bold for Kaiyodo! Funny, I was actually researching mustellids this morning, trying to decide which species of otter I was going to get from what company. I was thinking of the Papo Eurasian river otter, but one of the Kaiyodo figures for the Japanese subspecies (species?). But then you shared this image and I decided I'll get the WR river otter. What we really need is a good, small figure of a sea otter! Past versions are not readily available or too big for me. |

| the otter looks to me like an Asian small clawed otter, which I believe is the most common otter species in southern Asia, and is very popular in zoos and aquariums. |

that's what I am hoping for, just not optimistically LOL Just looking at this one picture of the figure, it looks most like an Asian Small-clawed Otter. The face seems too rounded short to be an Eurasian Otter, plus the muzzle appears cream or white, whereas the face and muzzle of Eurasian Otters are usually brown or tan. This is obviously a characteristic subject to genetic variation, so it may be nothing to go on; however, the shape of the head and muzzle appear short and rounded, which is exactly how Kaiyodo's previous Short-clawed Otters look (whereas, their Eurasian (or Japanese) River Otter figures all have long heads/muzzles). I could be wrong, but I think this is definitely an Asian Small-clawed Otter. |

| Strange that some of them have the taxonomic authority in addition to/in place of the specific epithet. That isn't a very Kaiyodo-like mistake to make. _________________ Where I try to find the best figure of every species: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

Yes I thought it was odd, too |
