| Since there's been some talk about leopards these days and after the excellent [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] by Roger, it was suggested that it would be nice to revisit a "cult" Schleich model from 2007. The African Leopard stayed on production for 9 years and it's one of the most long-lasting models for Schleich. It was finally replaced in 2016 by [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. The pose is like an animal ready for a territory battle or defending an offspring or a meal. Since it's gender-less, I'll consider it as a female leopard. I love the way the shoulders have moved higher, also the very feline-like front foot approach. I can't be very harsh with details, this is another era's model, so don't expect rough texture like we're used to with last decade's figurines. The painting is quite nice though, the fur pattern is not perfect but well presented and has a very expressive face. It's a leopard that took the test of time and escaped almost unharmed, so I'll rate it as A Classic! | Love your walk around! thanks for following my suggestion. I think it is still a very decent figure. Schleich style is quite evident on it, see how legs look short even for a leopard. Though, it is a pleasant figure with a good finish quality. The pose is also very nice as we can see on your great photos. I am not crazy about rough texture, so the way Schleich textured their figures during those days is more than fine for me. We are creating a kind of chain of leopard walk arounds. Who is next? What about the 2008 Safari Ltd leopard? It is a figure that is needing an update to match the current Safari standards. There is already a walk around of the most recent painting of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

Yeah, it's not perfect in any way. I think they wanted to make her shorter than the lioness, but didn't want to make the legs thinner too so they would look a bit longer.. Also the teeth could use just a touch with Kosta's knives. The finish is very good as you say. As you know, I also use my figures for educational reasons with my 4 year-old daughter and it was so cool that with this leopard and the 2007 Schleich Jaguar she learned so easy to distinguish a leopard from a Jaguar. It was like " look, the leopard has rosettes, but the Jaguar has bigger ones with a dot" . "And a bigger head dad" was the reply.. I'm glad that Schleich was so considerate with the important details in these figures. |

I'm glad that Schleich was so considerate with the important details in these figures. That is one of the best use we can give to our collections. I used to do the same with my niece when she was around the age of your daughter. Many grown up people people are not able of distinguish between a jag and a leopard. I even know some that call them lions or tigers and we can find these kind of mistakes in online sales. I remember my niece jokes about camels and dromedaries and the number of humps or when she asked me how to distinguish fawns once stags were easy. |

| yeah, though I have to admit that "The lion guard" (a cartoon tv series based on The Lion King that she watches), helped a lot. She knows animals like the honey badger, the snow leopard, red pandas and komodos, without ever mention them to her. I thought it was too early. Now I know I was wrong.. |
