The name in Japanese translates into cat shark. But according to Wikipedia, there are " around 160 species [of cat shark] placed in 17 generas" so there are many possibilities Perhaps a good challenge for our species-hunters ? _________________ SUSANNE |

| It is one more wonderful set from Eikoh. I am so happy this company continues providing us so many great figures. It is also wonderful to see Susanne's perfect pictures even if it is not the first time I see them. About the catshark, I think you're both correct, Japanese, in their language, call cat shark to the Japanese bullhead. It is not a cat shark as we know from English language but it translates to. Thus, the correct species is a Japanese bullhead shark and I think it looks like one. |

| A very beautiful set, with many lovely figures. The great white shark is rather strange looking. _________________ ADAM "Our planet is in crisis. The monster of this earth, is not a tiger nor a lion or shark. It's us we've destroyed the planet." (My own quote) |

| I also thought the cat shark is a Japanese bullhead, but it hasn't got enough fins on its underside. Compare with the Colorata: http://toyanimal.mywikis.net/wiki/Colorata_Japanese_Bullhead_Shark Did they forget some fins? |

| I don't understand what you mean, the Colorata and the Eikoh have both the same number of ventral fins, as every species of shark in the world have: two pectorals, two pelvics and one anal, plus the caudal and dorsals... _________________ My collection:- (Details):

| Sorry, you are right Pardofelis, I can't count . I thought the Colorata had two anal fins, but it doesn't. If it had, then the Colorata would be wrong, I suppose. |

| Maybe you mistook the lower lobe of the caudal fin with a second anal fin, but the Eikoh's figure also have this lobe :) _________________ My collection:- (Details):

| Por-beagle, like the dog. what a lovely set, i really like the white shark in blue. I wouldnt say its a porbeagle myself but to each their own. _________________ -"I loathe people who keep dogs. | Poorbeagle is probably a short word for Portuguese Beagle. Maybe there is also some connection between great white sharks and Great Danes? At least both are huge. Well, back to serious mode, great white hsarks in Japan are called Hojojiro sharks (ホホジロザメ) as we can read perfectly. However, being it a famous species, Google translator already knows what it is and translates to great white shark. On the other hand, Japanese bullheads are not famous and the translation is not in Google's database and it translates litterally to cat shark. English call catsharks because of their barbels, Japanese call bullheads as catsharks because of their eys, I guess. I think it is pacific to identify the catshark as a Japanese bullhead shark, at least as a bullhead and I will fix it on Eikoh page. About the great white hsark, I believe it is really a great white shark. Porbeagles are not very important to Japanese and the name Japanese give to the species translates into European shark. Besides of it, I think the first dorsal fin and the caudal crescent fits much better a great white shark than a poorbeagle, although it is evident that it is not a good rendition of the species. It lacks also the most distinctive detail of a porbeagle that is a white area at the back of the posterior part of the dorsal fin, the sculpt neither the painting represents it. |

| Thanks Roger! Then is a great white, OK. I said porbeagle just because of its face, with bigger and more forward-positioned eyes than great whites. Then is a Great White Shark with the face of a Porbeagle and the paintjob of a Blue Shark _________________ My collection:- (Details):

| Haha Roger, I love your always opportunistic humour sense I wonder what real chimaeras think of everybody calling chimaeras to the mix of different animals instead them. Maybe they think they deserve more recognition from general public _________________ My collection:- (Details):
