So many fantastic, new and unusual models! I really love the Squirrel too, and that Tiger and Lion are both so impressive- and the toucan is beautiful!

I think those eels are 'soft and squishy' - they came with pipes and broken pottery etc to stuff them in, as if part of a coral reef. I don't remember the species line-up, but there are some rare and possibly unique species in the set. I didn't order it fast enough and now it's hard to find.

What's the "helmeted" blue bird in front line? I love that it don't have a base and the legs are well proportioned, unlike in most bird figures!

yes I think so too, the blue bird is very detailed and beautiful, with the thin legs. I love the squirrel as well, so realistic and tiny. Well done !

I found that very interesting bird in a lot on ebay. I had seen that figure and i bought that lot only for that bird figure. The other figures are cheap HongKong stuff. I think that tiny figure could be also a HongKong figure, or a premium figure or......??? I have no idea, and it is not marked. For the specie my first intention was a blue jay. But i will look in my books if i can find a better match.

The body, wings, and crest suggest Himalayan Monal or similar pheasant.

Thank you. Yes, all together. The cat you can see on the right side of the stoat. I got now also the raven and the snow leopard. But i dont need the human figures.

How do you tell a weasel and a stoat apart? Weaselly. S'toatally different!

It does amuse me that Americans just seem to have dropped the word 'stoat', though, we have both here so can't help referring to them as different species.
Stoats have the black tail tip, that's the best way to tell (also when they're in summer colour not winter white, the divide between brown back and white belly is straight for stoats, wobbly for weasels, if that's any easier to remember!)

To explain:
In Europe there is the Stoat (also known in North America as the Short-tailed Weasel and in its winter coat as the Ermine) and the Least Weasel (generally referred to as just the “weasel”)
In most of North America there is the Short-tailed Weasel (same as the Stoat) and the Long-tailed Weasel (a completely different species from your “weasel”)
Altogether, there are 9 different species of “weasels” (Least, Long-tailed, Japanese, Yellow-bellied, Mountain, Indonesian Mountain, Siberian, Malayan, and Back-striped) in the Mustela genus, 10 counting the Short-tailed Weasel/Stoat, 14 if counting all other Mustela (the European Mink, Black-footed Ferret, Steppe Polecat, and European Polecat) 15 if counting the domestic ferret as a separate species, and 17 if counting the Southern North American and Alaskan island populations of the Short-tailed Weasel as separate species.
So, there is definitely more than one species of weasel, and just because we Americans call Stoats Short-tailed Weasels doesn’t mean we don’t still consider to be different from the Least or Long-tailed Weasels.

So many wonderful additions, I love that tiny stoat! So many beautiful, colourful birds too, and I love the pose of the roaring lion! Always so much variety to enjoy in your collection!

I remember reading some book as a child, with talking animals of course, and they were quite worried about being aggrieved by a stoat (it might have been Redwall . . .). Anyway, it was quite a while before I learned that was just another way to say ermine! In the meantime, who knows what Little Jill was imagining a "stoat" was . . . .

Don't be confrontational, I'm not here to argue about mustelids

I'm well aware there's more than two species in the world (perhaps saying 'we have one of each' would have been more accurate to phrase my thought than 'we have both', but never mind). It was a throwaway comment about stoats in popular culture usage, not amongst experts and knowledgeable enthusiasts. In one joke in Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy, the word 'stoat' was changed to 'weasel' in the US edition because Americans wouldn't get a silly enough mental image if they didn't know what one was.

Try to judge the tone of people's posts better - all the way through what I wrote, I was making puns and being silly, not anything worth getting angry about.
