| I know Harriet has already made wonderful pics of this model but I can't resist to give my two cents. I must say I fall in love with this model. It remind me so much the old LINEOL high-class models. I still don't understand why PAPO is able to produce at the same time some odd zebras and this fantastic jewel Some context for my friend Roger The yak, Bos grunniens or Bos mutus, is a long-haired bovine found throughout the Himalayan region of south Central Asia, the Tibetan Plateau and as far north as Mongolia and Russia. In addition to a large domestic population, there is a small, vulnerable wild yak population. Yaks belong to the genus Bos and may have diverged from cattle at any point between one and five million years ago, and there is some suggestion that it may be more closely related to bison than to the other members of its designated genus. Apparent close fossil relatives of the yak, such as Bos baikalensis, have been found in eastern Russia, suggesting a possible route by which yak-like ancestors of the modern American bison could have entered the Americas Yaks are heavily built animals with a sturdy frame, short legs, and rounded hooves. They have small ears and a wide forehead, with smooth hollow horns that are generally dark in colour. They have long shaggy hair with a dense woolly undercoat over the chest, flanks, and thighs to insulate them from the cold. Especially in males, this may form a long "skirt" that almost reaches the ground. The tail is long, with a large plume of hair over much of its length. Wild yaks typically have black or dark brown hair over most of the body, with a greyish muzzle, although some wild golden-brown individuals have been reported. Yak physiology is well adapted to high altitudes, having larger lungs and heart than cattle found at lower altitudes, as well as greater capacity for transporting oxygen through their blood[8] due to the persistence of foetal haemoglobin throughout life. Conversely, yaks do not thrive at lower altitudes, and begin to suffer from heat exhaustion above about 15 °C (59 °F). Further adaptations to the cold include a thick layer of subcutaneous fat, and an almost complete lack of functional sweat glands

| Wonderful photoes, Christophe And thankyou for the description of the physical peculiarities of this amazing creature, I am sure it is not only Roger, who benefits from it !!! So you all agree it is a wild yak ? In that case I will have to move my Papo Yak from tame animals to wildlife on my site But the one from Schleich IS a tame one, isn`t it ? Robert, we must see if the "mantra" ( I will not...) works with you |

| Thanks Christophe for your description and fantastic pictures! As I told you before, is very easy to find information of an animal in our days, you don't need a book. But to join the description is very important because we easily have the chance to read or read again about the animal that is being pictured. Is also nice to bring people who is searching in the web for some information and is linked to your fantastic reviews! ...and I'm sure you donnot waste many time doing it. Yes, the figure is absolutly fantastic! Choice is donne! Wild yaks have grey-white hairs arround their mouths and domesticated not, unless they have wild yak blood introduced! Now it is easy to see where to put your figures! |

| Thanks for the great review mon ami! Another fantastic model, which seems like a cross-breed between the old Lineol and old Hausser Elastolin yaks... I must admitt, that i didn't saw to much of the new releases of the bigger brands. It is time i start buying some of them! |
